World of Pain

Punk is cutting her last molar and (I think) some canines and she is c-r-a-b-b-y. She either wants to sleep a ton during the day and therefore not sleep at night, or she wakes up from her nap too early and then is a disaster by bedtime. Ugh. I can't wait until she has all of her teeth. Teething? Sucks.

She also was exposed 9 days ago to Hand, Foot and Mouth (Coxsackie). We thought we had dodged a bullet because she had nothing on her hands, feet, or in her mouth, but she DID have some bumps on her diaper area late last week... which apparently can be a sign. Also, she has two little blisters on her feet now. SCARED. She hasn't been to her day care since Wednesday (Thursday was Yom Kippur, Friday was my day off, then the weekend, then today was Columbus Day) and if she has to stay out for illness I will go berzerk. Berzerk, I tell you!

I had to work today because my agency was bought out by another agency who apparently does not believe in holidays. So I went to work (ugh) and my entire afternoon of clients cancelled (double ugh). My desk area has never been so clean.

My friend Morgan brought Jen and me a cake yesterday for our birthdays. YUM. I think I need to have some cake now. NOM NOM NOM.

Teething is such a downer. Seriously.

I was told by the nurse at my pediatrician that technically hand, foot, and mouth does not require the child to be excluded from daycare because although they are most contagious the first week of the virus 1.) who knows when that first week actually occurred and 2.) they can still be contagious well after the sores are gone and the child feels fine.

yeah, teeth are full of design flaws. we go through all this crap to get them in the first place, and then we lose them just when they're really getting useful. and the second set doesn't last very long, either...

I wish we were working on our last molar around here...Z had 4.5 teeth 1 month ago. NOw he's got around 9-10 teeth. It's been a rough month, and we can see a handful more just under the surface. i think we've gone thru case of Dye-Free Infant Motrin.

Emma and Punkster have both been terrible teethers. I want to smack those parents who say they never know when their kids are teething.
Emma's molars were really rough and the canines have been just as bad if not worse. She has 3 of 4 canines now and the last one has just been taking it's time bugging the crap out of us all. She has been up on average twice a night for over a month now and it was the same way with the molars. Sigh ...
Oh, and we still have the two year molars to come as well. Lucky us.

I totally feel your pain. Katie has been extra weird at bedtime the last week or so and I am hoping that once the last two second year molars finally come in we can be done with teething!

J. still has no teeth. So, I can't empathize yet, but I sympathize with Punk's ouchies and how hard it is on her moms.

And my experience is that many employers don't consider Columbus Day a holiday any more. I never had it off in the corporate world. Oh well.

Oooh. We had the bad teething, too. I'm so sorry. We also had the HFM at about the same age. Christian got it from the neighbor girl who got it from preschool. He had the kind that was only on his bottom and then blisters in his throat (who knew?). It just sucked. When I first heard about it, I seriously thought that it was something only zoo animals got. I was mortified. Sad. I know. Anyway, Sending lots of good thoughts that it all passes quickly.

The pediatrician who diagnosed V with Coxsackie decided to be cute and use the greek term for the sores, Herpangina. I think he was trying to be funny, as he could see me piece that together as 'herpes' + 'angina'.
