Taxes

I still haven't done our taxes. I should be super motivated to do it, as it involves getting money back (and who doesn't need money?), but I'm just not. Why, I don't know. Maybe I will do the federals online and then try to pay an H&R Block type place to do the state. It's the state that I hate doing.

Last year I did our state return on April 14th when I was overnight in the hospital. Good times.

Also, I love love LOVE this "spring forward" business with the clocks but it does make toddler bedtime wonky. And really, toddler bedtime doesn't need to be any more wonky.

Also also, Punk and I visited with [livejournal.com profile] anitsirk and her kids last Friday, and it was the awesome awesome. Why don't I do this more often?

Global Warming

The weather today was absolutely amazing. I know that winter isn't over but sometimes I just like to get my hopes up. I left my coat in the office because it wasn't necessary in the almost 60° loveliness; the sunshine even made the dirty, downtrodden neighborhoods chipper. An inner-city groundhog ceremony, adorned and gilded teens occupied stoops up and down my travels. Tomorrow they'll be back inside, the forecasters say. A pity.

I know it's only February and I shouldn't dream of such pleasantries, but my mind drifts to subtle springtime, the smell of damp, fertile earth bursting with early flowers. Roads specked with dirt untouched by still-garaged street sweepers. Outdoor recesses. Baby birds in growing trees. Aaah, springtime in the city.

60° on February 16th. Global warming is a dangerous thought, but I have a terrible time being disappointed. A flaw, I'm sure, but I can deal with that.
