Umm... how is it that Sarah Palin understands autism better than most?

Is it because her infant son has Down Syndrome?

WTF?

ETA: Googling mentions something about an autistic nephew?

Oh Jeney, I have been waiting to use this icon with you MY WHOLE LIFE!

Okay look, just because you work in EI now doesn't mean you can pop in here with your anecdotal evidence! :)

For the record, one of my previous BCEI clients with DS who is in play group now can eat not only her own fists, BUT YOURS TOO!!!

pardon as I jump in uninvited... ;)

I don't know you, but I am sure you would indeed be an expert (or fast on your way to becoming one), just as I would if it were my child. But doing that sort of research and learning takes time - a LOT of time - as you sift through all the various resources and really start to understand the complexities. Do we really think that she's had time to do that since she's been out campaigning 24/7 for vice-president, or before, when she was Governor? I'm sure the taxpayers in Alaska hope not, because if she's been spending every spare minute studying Downs and such, then when has she been governing???

I just don't get that - I don't get how her having a child with Down's Syndrome supposedly grants her some special wisdom, and I don't get how we're supposed to praise her on the one hand for being this great, involved, and expert mom, when she's dragging her special needs kid (along with her pregnant teen) from photo op to photo op instead of sitting at home reading the books and websites and etc. that would actually help her develop this supposed "expertise"

(and yes, I'm voting for "That One", so I'm definitely biased. Oh, that and I'm a queer who doesn't need Sarah's "tolerance", just good old equal rights thank you very much... lol!)

I find Sarah Palin manipulative and annoying, but that is just me.

[identity profile] jeney.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I don't understand what it is, except for maybe a weird smurf?

Um... it's nice if Palin understands what parents who have special needs children go through, to at least some extent.

But when I heard McCain talk about it, my first thought was, "Um, she isn't going to be first lady. She's going to be vice president." It just seemed kind of Nancy Reagan-just-say-no, Barbara-Bush-literacy, etc. One of those nice, social issue-ish things for a woman to take on. Let the men deal with the economy and foreign policy. Palin will care about the children. Gag.

I'm not saying that we don't need politicians to advocate for children with special needs, better funding for educational programs, more research, etc. I used to be an exceptional children's teacher. We totally do. But it kind of struck me as a lame selling point for national office.

I bet it's Todd. Sarah diagnosed him with Asperger's when he wouldn't talk about their relationship.

She's like Bill Frist that way, can diagnose just about anything.

I had forgotten that they ever wore clothes!

This reminds me of this one time I asked this guy what his userpic was and was embarrassed to find out that it was of him with his hand down his panties jacking off. A GIF, too! but i swear it was ambiguous. wish i hadn't asked!

[identity profile] estrange.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I was confused about too.

Diabeetus! Oatmeal!

dufus

I totally think he just forgot what her little guy's diagnosis was. So when he said autism he really meant down syndrome. He made a huge mistake (over and over again) because he is a giant turd. Just my guess.

[identity profile] dustyskinandall.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It was probably just as embarrassing for him that you didn't recognize he had a penis in there. :P

[identity profile] yerbrainondrugs.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly she knows better because she's a hockey mom. Duh!
The woman spends her time guarding our precious borders from the Red Menace! Leave her alone!

[identity profile] dustyskinandall.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
But she IS campaigning for first lady, in my opinion. Where has Cindy been since Sarah came on the scene? Invisible.

[identity profile] jeney.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't tell what the picture was of! At all. I can't remember what I perceived it to be, but let me tell you I was not even close to being right. :D

[identity profile] kieron.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Cindy despises Sarah.

[identity profile] dustyskinandall.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
ooooh, is that true??? Intrigue!

[identity profile] kieron.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well....what I had read that was Cindy's opinion of Sarah Palin was carefully neutral and she outright disagreed with her on a key issue and said so- which means in the political world that she thinks she sucks.

:)

[identity profile] artjax.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, it took him a long time to remember the word Autistic, give him credit for that. He was going to use the R word until his speech writers thought better of it.

Yes. I'm going to hell.

[identity profile] eeka13.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHA.

She's stopped really putting stuff all the way in her mouth now. Now she just flops over face-first onto everything with her tongue hanging out. "Everything" today included my bongos. And omg her mom was freakin bonkers today; I'll tell you later in a non-public location! ;o)
