Today, my Jennifer and I met Jenn and Olex at the Museum of Science. I had scored some free passes and Jenn really wanted to check out the butterfly garden exhibit that had just opened.
There were quite a few butterflies in the little, humid room - but there were also quite a few people. All in all I preferred the butterfly exhibit at the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus - more butterflies and the Chihuly glass. Still, the smallness of this exhibit allowed me to get awfully close to some of the butterflies, even with the large numbers of people. Even my low-res camera was able to catch some pretty detailed shots.
I'm glad this one was spotted for me. I recently read a book called Born to be a Butterfly with my second grade In2Books pen pal, and we learned about how some butterflies can camouflage themselves to look like tree bark. I wish I'd had the photo before I wrote my pen pal letter. I'd have loved to include it for him.

have you read many books this year? they only sent me one all year, and i have three pen pals. last year, i think i read four or five.

I have two pen pals in the second grade this year (last year I had three in the third grade, but one flaked out halfway through). They are in different classes, and I am on Cycle Five with one penpal. I finished Cycle Four with the other pen pal, but her classroom seems to be running about a month or so behind the other kid's, so I'm not sure if we'll do the fifth book.
My boy pen pal (the one I just wrote the Cycle V letter to) is an incredible writer for a 7-year-old. His letters are full of interesting questions and observations. I got lucky this year. (My girl pen pal basically writes me an abridged book report, but she's cute anyway.)
I'm sorry you haven't gotten books. I would call/e-mail In2Books and find out what's up with that. I think they suspended the program for next school year to do some upgrades, too.
