In the Closet

What's even funnier is the e-mail I got from Coworker Funk today. She (and I, I suppose, if we're being honest) has this little obsession with that R. Kelly "Trapped in the Closet" series. I mean, really, it's one of the most ridiculous things ever, and if you haven't heard any of it, you're lucky.

So yeah, we're always singing stuff in the style of "Trapped in the Closet." (You know, things like, "And I opened up the closet. And there was a lot of paperwork in the closet. And I had to do the filing. I did the filing in the closet. Then I gave her a baby.") And the other day I saw online that the Coolidge was going to have a midnight showing of all of the parts of the "opera" WITH SING-ALONG. And of course I had to call her and let her know.

She sent me e-mail that went on about what a lyrical genius R. Kelly was and how he's the next Bob Dylan. And then she wrote me her very own "opera" about her events this morning:

He's scary on so many levels. You should also check out "In the Kitchen" on his website. I'm telling you, he's a lyrical genius. I'm inspired. This morning my mom made whole wheat blueberry pancakes for my dad and me. I want to write a song:

And then she poured the batter on the griddle.
And then she sprinkled on some blueberries.
And then she flipped the pancake.
She flipped over the pancake.
She was frying the pancake.
There were bubbles on the pancake.
She was frying the pancake.

I can NOT stop laughing about this. Because, well, she's got the format down PERFECTLY.

I can't think of R. Kelley without thinking of Dave Chappelle's Piss on You song.

I can't stop laughing either.

When I was in high school we went to midnight showings of Rocky Horror. Our are kids going to be going to "Trapped in the Closet" sing a longs??

Oh, I don't think so. I can't imagine this travesty will be a cult classic.

I don't know that song.

She does have it down perfect! OMG! That's hysterical :) After I saw those videos the first time, I wanted to narrate everything that way. I did not however have it as down as that. That's cheesy perfection.

I think you just need more practice. Keep trying! :)

the only thing she's missing is the dramatic reverb.

She was frying the pancake...pancake...pancake... cake...

Oh yes. How suspenseful!

You know what else he's a genius at? Getting caught having underage sex.

So true. He's a douchebag.

That's hilarious. also reminds me of the Family Guy where they make fun of Randy Newman's style. "She picks the apple up... she puts it back down.. she picks it up again... and wipes it on her shirt!"

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-05-01 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so absent of popular culture. I've never seen Family Guy. And I don't know who Randy Newman is! :)

He does songs for lots of disney movies and also the theme song from "Monk". you've seen monk, right? ;)

and come on now, I'm the totally clueless one when reading your American Idol posts. :P

I haven't seen an actual episode but I have heard of it and seen previews. Does that count? (I don't have cable, remember?)

It's okay to be clueless about AI. That probably makes you cooler than me. ;)

[identity profile] sacharine.livejournal.com 2006-05-03 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
it counts! i never watched it on tv either, but james netflixed a bunch of episodes and got me into it that way.
it's actually pretty funny, and if you guys are still doing the netflix thang you should add it to your list. :)

Dude, my netflix cannot take any more requests. It is OUT OF CONTROL. :)
