Nothing much to report

Not much to write about these days because there isn't much of anything going on. I don't have any fun and exciting work stories because I don't see too many people in my day-to-day. We have some student workers who are funny and entertaining but I am just meeting them so it's not like we're having a grand old time. I miss my EI buds in Boston and all of the time we spent cracking up and being stupid. Heck, yesterday I asked everyone in the office if they wanted to "eat my big nuts" (I buy a nut assortment but really only like the almonds and peanuts, not the bigger ones) and it didn't generate much fun. So sad.

I'm going to a three-day conference here in Northampton from Thursday to Saturday. I asked the woman in charge if there was some way I could volunteer to get a discount, and she said that if I helped people check out on Friday and Saturday I could come for free on Thursday. I agreed, but I got the volunteer schedule this morning and now I'm still doing check-outs on Saturday but I'm no longer checking out on Friday, instead checking in on Thursday AND Saturday. WTF? Checking in involves being there at like 8am (conference starts at 9, I think) and no one EVER mentioned checking in to me. So I don't get it. And now I have to ask about it, and feel like a jerk. But I don't really want to have to be up an hour earlier on Saturday.

I basically don't do much anymore besides go to work, eat, and go to bed. Exciting life, I know. I get home from work around 5:30. At some point we eat dinner. I fall asleep watching television between 9:30 and 10, and eventually make the trip into bed where I get /terrible/ sleep because I end up with three cats on top of me and I can't move and then my back and legs start to hurt. How glamorous. But when you have 35lb of cat on you, it's not like you can just shove them off gracefully... it's heavy!

So yeah, that's pretty much it around here. I thought when we moved here I would resurrect my exciting life but I see that it was either a pipe dream or is going to take a lot of time. You know, that's okay because I have a lot of time.

That is possibly one of the funniest things I've heard in a while. How is that not hysterical?! What is wrong with those people?!

Yeah, some people are just no fun at all.

I don't move when the cats are on the bed because I don't want to disturb them (they sleep between our legs). Poor dears. They must be so exhausted from sleeping all day, taking baths and fighting with each other...it's just so peaceful. I've gotten several bad nights sleep too just because I didn't want to move one in the middle of the night.

Oh, I know. My cats are so spoiled and I am totally to blame. My midwife (the one I don't like so much because she's kind of judgmental) was really laying in on me about the cats and how I have to get them off the bed now so they don't smother the baby. Way to give me more guilt, lady!

I don't want your big nuts either but that totally cracked me up!! I seriously don't now how that wouldn't turn the office into hysterics!! They all need to lighten up!

All 3 of my cats sleep with me too and they have no desire to move or get up when I do and it's like trying to heave huge logs off of me to even slide out from underneath them. They just sorta lay there and mumble under their breath about how dare I try and remove them from their comfy space.

Some people have no senses of humor, I'm afraid. I don't know what to do with those people.

I get the cat glares when I try to roll over.

[identity profile] marshmelococoa.livejournal.com 2007-02-06 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
And cat glares always result in threats to take your breath while you sleep. LOL

Yeah, that was pretty funny. :)

Solution: when the baby starts kicking, pick up each cat individually at place it on your lap. BAM! they'll jump up and run. But they may never come back after the baby is born.

I know this works because apparently Rainbow was sitting on my mother's lap when I started kicking and scared the crap out of him. Yep.

I have a while to go before I can actually try that, but I will keep it in mind. :)

Yeah, it's kind of rough when it seems life is in some sort of holding pattern! So, I've noticed that you've quoted both Dar Williams and Catie Curtis on this site (BTW they both are supremely awesome) I figured it might be cool for you to check out a groovy Canadian singer/songwriter who also rocks: Ember Swift! If you haven't heard of her, you should, and if you have, her music totally pulls me out of the doldrums. As I'm drowning in physiology, pharmacology, and other fun subjects I find myself putting on her music quite a bit! Happy listening! -Jill

I will have to check her out. Thanks for the tip!

Good luck with schoolzzz!
