Couple barred from giving child goofy name

Somehow I think some people, especially my [livejournal.com profile] smurfbrother, would get a little chuckle out of THIS.

You do realize, of course, that in my stint as a social worker I have seen children named: Priest, Klord (pronounced Kay-lord), Princess Jlo, Aarryanna, Aarika, and Soltravius.

[identity profile] artjax.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
This makes my choice of "Mattingly" seem much much more acceptable.

[identity profile] etherial.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
A friend's baby is named Mattrim. It's great because it's weird, but it shortens to something normal. (alternately, something normal that shortens to something weird is also cool, but much harder).

Saw that, very funny. I figure, though, that if numerals are ok for license plates, they're ok for names as well.

Princess Jlo is the best name ever.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't forget her twin brother "Prince Jlo"!!

I will call the baby M1L7Y

[identity profile] livinginfits.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i saw this and laughed. reminded me of the best baby name ever: urhines (i'm guessing pronounced "your highness")

I miss you. E-mail me your phone number.

[identity profile] realsupergirl.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to change my name to Princess Consuela Banana Hammock, and you should change your name to Crapbag.

I miss Friends (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Consuela_Banana_Hammock).

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, Crapbag. You should save that one for any future spawn, though.

[identity profile] dzmonster.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The best (worst?) one that I ran into as a teacher was Virjen, followed by Princess (they let her sister name her) and Genesis.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Now, given a choice between the three, I would choose Genesis hands down. It's not nearly as awful as the other two. I mean, sure, it could be loads better, but if my name was Princess or Virjen I would shoot myself.

A friend of mine who worked for the New Jersey equivalent of the DSS found these gems in her travels: Rotunda Jones, Iobeymoses (all one world), and Diamond Ruby Sapphire Pearl.

Boggles my mind.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I also love those families where you play, "Guess the dad's name!" As in:

Kids' names: Tyshawn, Daeshawn, LeeShawn, ShawnDel. Guess the dad's name.

Kids' names: Christal, Christina, Christopher. Guess the dad's name.

You get the idea.

I think "Iobeymoses" is my new favorite name.

You should ask Whuffle about the person she knows who named her first son:

Merlin Kermit Jonathan Katz

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I would be scared of that person.

I had a Mormon acquaintance who named his first-born son Anakin.

I refuse to begin to imagine the apostacies that would happen in the US if we started to allow numerals in names. *shudder*

I'll stop now. In a world where Xerox has been used as a child name, all of the above are possible.

I have to share a few of the names that stick out for me in my social work realm:
Twins named Princess and Precious
and a brother sister pair named Devil(M), Desire(F) ....

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
See, us social workers get the EDUCATION. I swear, nothing beats child welfare for getting the insight on the good kid names. :)

All hail social work!

Devil is the best name for a kid ever. I used to work with a kid named Janathan. I thought it was just a different spelling for "Jonathan," but really, it was Juh-NAthan. They called him Nate. Odd.

When I was working at the hospital in downtown Cleveland there was a child who the mother named Handsomestranger. The child also had about 12 middle names or so. It took a while to right the baby's name on its chart when I was filing it.

There's a store named Magnolia Thunderpussy in Columbus (OH). But a person? NO WAY!

[identity profile] starstealingirl.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha. I'm trying to decide whether "4real" is better or worse than the time I was an office assistant in high school, and a man came into the office to register his son with the school-- his son, whose name was "Robert Christian Maximillian Dragonard Johann Sebastian Bach."

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh lord. Do these people hate their kids? Seriously!

[identity profile] lickingtoad.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I went to school with 'Gabriel Thelonious Monk Laddisinski,' AKA 'For the love of God, just call me Gabe Ladd.'

I also went to school with a girl whose last name was 'Quackenbush,' and whose father was in the Alan Parsons Project. (She named her daughter 'Heaven.' As in, 'Heaven Quackenbush.' That doesn't beat 'Magnolia Thunderpussy,' but it's close.)

I hatehatehated my middle name as a child. I thought it was pretty bad. It's 'Morgan,' but for some reason standardized tests always cut off the M. My elder brother used to joke that 'Christopher Organ' was my porn-star stage name; the other formulae I'm familiar with create such gems as 'Morgan Roosevelt,' 'Rosebud Roosevelt' ... very seventies, I always think.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha ha, Christopher Organ is the BEST NAME EVER. I love it. I am so calling you that from now on.

Thelonious Monk? SHEESH.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_epiphany_girl_/ 2007-06-21 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha!

G., who is also a social worker, saw a girl named Tequila. She jokes she wants to name our kid Shanaynay Laquisha. I told her I want to name our kid Lorelai, for Gilmore Girls!

Clearly, we're crazy.

[identity profile] coveryourears.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Lorelai! I love GG.
I told my friend to name her daughter Lane, since her other daughter was named Sawyer (Another famous Diane)..she otped for Keaton though.

Shatiel(Shah-teal) Blue
Fadie (Fatty)
De'Ron
Shaquan
Toi (Toy)

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, the poor child named Fadie! It's so hard when there's a name in another culture that is just... brutal here. I worked with a woman named Dorcas. She was the nicest woman ever. It is pronounced "Dorkus." Ouch.

What's with the double letters? I don't get it!! AIEEEEEEEE.

Wow, I guess you went to Makeup High. That's a little scary. I don't think anyone who graduated with me had a bizarre name... but who knows about the CURRENT kids. Although I imagine they're all named Abigail, Hannah, Olivia, Hailey, Taylor, and Madison.

Those are even better than some names from FM.

I heard some good ones working with teen mommas in foster care. How would you pronounce "Myshane"?

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I think my best guess would be "mish-AAH-nee" or "me-sha-NAY." Am I close?

There were a few funny names at FM, but most of the guys seemed to be named after presidents. I guess a product of their generation.

I don't like names I can't readily pronounce. Makes me uncomfortable.

At 16, I lived in a home for fallen women for six months - I was not fallen, but business was slow.

When former residents would drop by for ongoing support or just to visit, it was always entertaining.

Hey, around that same time, I named a co-parented teddy bear I had been given Ellen Orange Flavoured Lube Bear. In honour of Ellen Degeneres, who had just come out, no less.

Can you imagine the atrocity that might have occurred had I been fallen?

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
