It's easier to spend money when you don't have any.

We are preemptively spending our tax return. That is never a good idea, I'm sure, but Jen's parents keep asking when we're going to visit them (read: take the baby to their house) and I stumbled across tickets from Hartford to Ft. Myers that were a) not ridiculously expensive and b) NONSTOP, baby! so we bought them. We had to impulse buy them because the outgoing flight had five remaining seats. So we bought them and then called Jen's parents to make sure they would be home.

I guess Jen's mom is tired of arguing with Jen about our "crazy" parenting choices, because when she asked if we needed a crib for the baby and Jen said, "No, she sleeps with us," her mom said, "Oh, whatever."

HA HA HA.

Punk attended her first party yesterday! She was in a room full of strangers on a too-short nap and she DID. NOT. CRY. Hot damn, she even sat in her travel booster seat thinger and ate peas, laughed at some strangers, and let people she did not know pick her up. She did scream, but hey, that's what she does best. And. And. AND. she let me put her down in her PnP and slept without a peep for nearly 4 hours before I put her on the bed with me. And she even took a nap this morning. A nap! At SOMEONE ELSE'S HOUSE outside of the Fortress of Solitude. I had to lay in bed with her but whatever, she took a nap!

~//~

She made up for all of this awesome by crying a lot when we took her to see my grandparents. Thank God we could blame it on teething, because I don't want them to get a complex.

~//~

Speaking of teething, guess whose second tooth broke through the other day? Go on, guess.

On our way to the party thinger in Boston (we brought a car seat and some other stuff to [livejournal.com profile] whuffle and [livejournal.com profile] halleyscomet) we had to stop to feed a hungry Punk and the nearest place to stop was the Natick Mall. While we were walking through Initials One Cent to find a place to sit, Punk channeled her voice through me and said, "I wonder if they have a Gymboree," because they don't have such craziness where we live, thank God. And right outside the store was a frickin Gymboree. So we bought her an outfit. On sale. That cost $40.

THAT OUTFIT HAD BETTER BE MADE OF GOLD, DAMMIT.

Also, we got to smoosh on [livejournal.com profile] hopemcg and [livejournal.com profile] meglett and Quinn! It was so fun and only a little crazy to have an infant and a toddler in the house. I guess we're all prepared for the inevitable #2 now!

I put too little faith in C when I'd fly with her and she's done great each time just to prove me wrong. The best piece of advice I can give is be prepared and it will all go smoothly.

My mom buys C a LOT of clothes from Gymboree-- but she stalks it online since many times you can find better deals and sales online than in the store.

I checked it out on the web and it was the same price. I guess it's the most recently retired "line" (ha ha ha, baby clothing lines) and it is just so cute I could die.

DIE, I tell you!

Which outfit did you get? Catherine has been eyeballing the giraffe stuff lately, but we're waiting to see if Grammie gets it first ;)

It's part of the "Holland Days" series and is a navy blue overall and a long sleeved shirt with tulips on the collar, and little matching socks.

I love it! Isn't it funny how uncomfortable people get when you tell them something YOU choose to do for your baby as her MOTHER. Like you don't know WTF you're doing ... That's going to be a fun trip for you. Can't wait to read about it.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, actually, my mother is worse. I guess because she feels like she needs to go to the extreme and give me advice. It's less annoying when I only hear things through Jen. ;)

It IS easier to spend money when you don't have it, isn't it? We're running debt on the credit cards, which we prefer not to do; and it is so easy to think about buying things 'cause it's like "oh just throw it on the debt pile. Who cares." :-/

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
We don't really do the credit card debt, we just keep draining the savings. It's like a neverending supply of money!! Except, umm, it's going to end.

It was so wonderful to see you, and to get to spend a little time with the punk when she was actually awake and happy. She is so freaking cute it hurts.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It was good to see you, too, although I didn't really get to see you. I was too busy baby-wrangling. Maybe next time!!

[identity profile] cider.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats on all the successes - sounds like you guys are having some good times. Awesomeness abounds.

I do enjoy a little awesome.

Awesome looks good on you.

My coworker told me that gymboree is expensive but that the clothes were very quality. She said she treated her kids to an outfit once a year and that they lasted through thick and thin.

I just did our taxes today -- and the amount was so much that I redid them three times (good thing too because I had missed that pmi payments are tax deductible for 2007 -- a new thing). I printed it out and will look through it again tomorrow because I just can't believe how much we are getting back.

I plan on spending ours on a couch, a new stove and home improvements.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's good to know that the clothes will last. I just hope they're stain-resistant. :)

I pick up my taxes from the accountant tomorrow. We pay someone to do it because our taxes are wack (we have to file as singles for the federal and joint for the state, and it's all confusing to decide things like 'who claims the house') and I hope we get a lot. We have a lot of home improvements that need to be done (like repair our front steps that are crumbling, sigh) and I hope there's money for that.

haha, Fortress of Solitude, i like that!

i can totally relate to in laws who don't care for "weird" parenting styles. b's mom is coming for a visit friday, and i can just hear the crap we'll get over the fact that the crib is more a clothes rack than a place to sleep...

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I just love all of the warnings that we can't keep the baby in bed with us for too long because she'll never want to get out. As if there are teenagers who still sleep with their parents. ;)

We use our crib every day and every night. Just not long-term. Aah well. :)

Do you have a gymboree center up there anywhere? I had no idea what gymboree but I was looking for something to take Paige to when she was about 2 or 3 and I found one of there play centers. It was great the adults play with the kids. Its like classes in since the only kids that are there are the ones in your group.
They would make things for them to climb on from mats and things, or scoot through a course on these squares of wood with wheels. At the end of every class we would get under a parachute and the teacher would tell a story then blow bubbies and tickles the kids toes.

Paige learned a lot about waiting in line and taking turns. And it was great seeing her expressions when she did something new.

Their logo is the same so I think it is part of the same company that does the clothing.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
As far as I know, there's no Gymboree center anywhere. I haven't really LOOKED but it's not at any of the local malls. I've heard their classes (or whatever you call them) are expensive.

[identity profile] sarahaubry.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
which line at Gymbo? I am in -love- with the new stuff for easter.....there is a website DEVOTED to Gymbo addicts...they DISCUSS the clothing lines and even HACK INTO the sites and post pics of the upcoming lines - before they are released. crazytown.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That is just nerdy craziness. It's baby clothes, for eff's sake!!

We got some of the old "Holland Days" stuff. They are cute!

[identity profile] folkyboy.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
& you didn't even put it on her and take pics to show us already? what kind of unfit mother are you?!

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't fit her yet. And it needs to be washed first. But of course there will be photos, duh!!
