Yep. Just dry. And definitely moisten before trying to get them out.
Are you still having trouble getting them in? I use a method I learned when I first got mine (at 16) where I use both hands. I use my left (non-dominant) to raise my upper eyelid and them use my right middle finger to lower my lower eyelid. And my right pointer finger to insert the contact. Other people I've seen put their contacts in use one hand, so I just thought I'd put it out there. I can't do it any other way.
