Daedalus is home! They called this morning and said he had responded well to the IV fluids and the muscle relaxers, and they actually had to give him less than they thought because he didn't have any tremors or issues after midnight. Thank goodness! We picked him up this morning and he hid under the bed for a little while but within a couple of hours he was back to roaming around the house. He's a little weak but got up on the kitchen table to beg for food while I was feeding Punk so it's nice to know his personality is still in tact. ;)

The vet who wrote out his discharge papers wrote in the papers that it was pyrethrine (or whatever) toxicity and that it was caused by the Hartz product. We didn't even have to ask her to do this, it was all printed out for us when we got there. I will definitely be calling them tomorrow and finding out where to send it so I can give them an earful. Also, because he didn't require as much medication as they thought, it actually cost less than their "low quote" (which I paid up front) and we ended up getting a $70 refund to my credit card.

I am really pleased with this emergency vet hospital. They were really awesome.

In his discharge paperwork, it mentioned that he had a very sweet personality. Oh yeah, that's my big loverboy.

That is a very small box for a very large cat.

I am glad that he is home, and alright. Was worrying today.

Oh thank goodness. I'm almost in tears I'm so relieved. Seriously. I'm allergic to pyrethrins, that just makes he and I even more bonded.

Give him a big huge hug for me please.

Such great news!!

I've seen several 'Hartz murders' when I worked in the clinic. It really has no business being on the shelves anywhere. I'm not sure why the stuff hasn't been banned already. The reactions to Hartz products range from mild to death. I've nursed some kitties that I jus wish would have been euthanized because of their problems./rant

I'm sorry you didn't know about the product sooner. I'm just so glad it turned out well. There are other products that work so much better than Hartz, even for a bit more money - they don't equal ER bills. Feel free to ask me for my input if your vet didn't share with you already.

He is one handsome big cat!

Oh, so happy to hear that he's going to be okay!

I'm sure it was his strong manly nature that pulled him through (I mean, he must have the kindeys of a horse, really.)

Daedalus looks very similar to our cat, Haiku. Except she's the tiniest cat in history. :)

I'm so glad he's doing better! I worked at a vet clinic when I was in high school, and I remember a cat getting really sick from a flea and tick treatment, but I don't remember the brand.

Oh, you both must be so relieved! I am so happy to hear this!

And ya know, that's good he has a good personality. Our Duke had notes ALL OVER his emergency/hospital stay chart (4 days a few years ago for a urinary tract issue) saying "cat extremely fractious and difficult to work with." "Cat very grumpy." "Cat resistant to treatment."

He's a big ball of love at home, but he hates being outside his home. What can we say? :-)

Again, I am SO happy your kitty is ok! :-D

Step one: Put a hole in a box.
Step two: Put a cat in that boooox!

I'm so glad to hear the big man is alright. To say that I am horrified that Hartz flea meds can FREAKING KILL YOUR CAT is the understatement of the year. Please eviscerate them when you get them on the phone.

I have never had to buy any kind of flea medication for my cats because they have never left my house (and my houses have never had fleas). I know that you can get things like Frontline and Advantage or whatever and that you can get them at PetCo... but it was after 9pm on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and Jen really wanted to protect the cats in case Fin brought something in with him. I have never bought that sort of product before... but there's really no reason to think that something sold on the shelf of major stores is actually toxic to cats.

I know, that's why it shouldn't be on the shelves at all. It happens to so many unsuspecting people. It's really sad. I don't know what it takes to get something like that pulled from the shelves.

I don't buy any of their products or support them in any way.

I'm thankful for you guys that it all turned out ok and your kitty will be just fine.

And my 'rant' wasn't to you guys, it was about Hartz. I just loathe that company.

Yeah, I am a hater, too.

What's even worse is that when I called to report my cat's reaction, they were so blase about it. Like it happens all the time. (Which I know it does.) I mean, she was asking "does he have this symptom? this symptom?" I mean, if you know what happens, STOP EFFING SELLING IT!!!!

But it looks like they will definitely pay me off.

ugh! That just makes me sick. They don't even care about the animals. It's very sad.

I'm glad they'll compensate, as they should. And they should pull those products from the shelves and stick to brushes.
