The Muppet Show

We have been watching Season One of The Muppet Show on DVD as a family. I am loving it. I remember loving it as a kid, and watching it with my family, and loving how the whole family got into it. It is so 70s and delicious.

There's some stuff in it (violence, saying things like "stupid") that Punk hasn't been exposed to prior, but she seems to be taking it in stride and will tell us that someone is not being friendly or she will say, "That's not good." She is such a little TV police officer. :)

She gets so excited when we watch it. It's hard not to love the Muppets. I feel like if she gets hooked on The Muppet Show, I am raising her up right.

one of my little friends (she's 3.5) has been watching the Muppet Show lately with her moms and now talks a lot about how Miss Piggy is mean because she hits.

Oh yeah, Miss Piggy is MEAN.

We have a Muppet Show CD (which is how this whole thing got started) that is on non-stop in the car because Punk is obsessed with it, and there is a part where Piggy is threatning Kermit (as usual) and says "Stomp your froggy face into the floor." Yikes!

My kids are completely hooked on the Peanuts :) It makes me smile! Glad Punk is enjoying another old favorite.

i have that season, as well, and am just waiting for Zach to be ready to see it. The violence and stuff is not so great for him right now, because he's been testing out hitting and working out his frustrations, so I'm thinking we'll wait a bit on it.
But I love watching 80s Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow with him. And, totally, if he's obsessed with LeVar Burton and Muppets, and still calls Elmo "Grover", then I'll be a happy camper. Plus, I've still managed to keep him away from the shows I find irritating - Blues Clues, Barney, Teletubbies, new Sesame Street, Caillou...pretty much everything, I guess! I'm a boring mommy!

Punk has never been a big tester and I'm fortunate that she is good at understanding what is "friendly" and what is not. She is really bothered by Miss Piggy because she is so aggressive. And when Gonzo threw a tomato plant, she was all, "That's not good, mama." Heh.

I am okay with most of today's kid TV but there are some that grate on my nerves: Caillou, Max and Ruby, and Angelina Ballerina are just obnoxious, Barney is too syrupy for me, and new Sesame Street is too Elmo. But I don't mind Blue's Clues, or some of the Disney preschool shows, or hell, even Dora is growing on me because Punk likes it so much.

We started watching the Muppets this summer and I was surprised by the violence and some of the language. Saff was quick to comment on Miss Piggy's karate chops.

Side note - my kid fell in love with Miss Piggy and now whenever she thinks I look especially good she'll say - Mama you're so pretty. You look just like Miss Piggy. (Thankfully I know she means this as quite the compliment.)
