Nothing like a good chuckle on a Sunday
Dec. 16th, 2001 01:05 pmSeveral years ago, I was a Group Leader at Philmont Training Center, a section of Philmont Scout Ranch, the high adventure Boy Scout camp in Cimarron, NM. It's a beautiful place, awe-inspiring, and well, it was before the Boy Scouts decided to go to court to exclude people. Sadly, I will never work there again. But what can you do?
But that's not the funny part. You see, there are still some of my campers that, on occasion, keep in touch with me. One girl in particular, a lovely young LDS (Mormon) woman who was in a group with me and Stinky B in 1998, emails me along with a whole list of people whenever big news happens in her life.
She is apparently getting married, which is good. I believe she's 20 or 21 years old, which, in some circles, has her late to the temple, but she's happy, and that's great. I had emailed her back after her last email that "since A. and I broke up" (she knew about that already, I'd emailed her in the summer) "I'd had several tantalizing offers." She writes back:
I think I will start out by writing about the boy named Kung Foo Girl. Or the boy named Princess. Or the boy named Magpie. I can hardly wait to send this email out. I want it to be absolutely perfect! :)
