As predicted, I was so out of steam after the marathon paper-writing on Saturday that I did nothing at all remotely school-productive yesterday. On the mental health level, though, I had a very productive evening with the [livejournal.com profile] columbus crew. It was pizza and games with [livejournal.com profile] pattisimmons, [livejournal.com profile] scottsimmons (who came out of the basement!), [livejournal.com profile] happy2beso, both newlywedded halves of [livejournal.com profile] dianaandbill, [livejournal.com profile] 356dreamer who is not named Dave, and my sekrit boyfriend [livejournal.com profile] whod81.

Two of my favorite things were involved: Apples to Apples, and feats of strength! And I guess the even better part was that I emerged victorious from both, having tied score-wise in A2A with my new buddy Steve and then having beaten him in arm wrestling (though I still think he was going easy on me). Three things, really, because I was playing with and brushing Lara's hair for a while, and that was heavenly. She looked like a prom-ready princess when I was done, hee. Her hair smells really good, and is fine and shiny and soft and wonderful. My Ryan cracked me up the whole night, too. I think we scared Diana 'n Bill.

I got home to a really sweet email that was reinforced in livejournal. Please don't tell anyone, it would ruin my tough-guy image, but I'm really loving that stuff.

I have a stack of articles and books in front of me, 34 of them to be exact, and it's so overwhelming that I don't know where to start. I feel like I should do /something/ in the 2.5 hours I have before I need to get ready for work - it's quiet, I'm awake, it's the 'right thing to do.' But I just don't want to. I want to whine and stomp and go back to my warm bed and I wish someone was there.

Sometimes being a grownup sux0rs.

Claudia said, "But, Mrs. Frankweiler, you should want to learn one new thing every day. We did even at the museum."

"No," I answered, "I don't agree with that. I think you should learn, of course, and some days you must learn a great deal. But you should also have days when you allow what is already in you to swell up inside of you until it touches everything. And you can feel it inside you. If you never take time out to let that happen, then you just accumulate facts, and they begin to rattle around inside of you. You can make noise with them, but never really feel anything with them. It's hollow."
