I freely admit to my problem: pregnancy-phobia.

The idea of pregnancy kind of creeps me out. It's parasitic. It's like that Alien movie. It /moves/ inside a woman's body and you can see elbows and knees and things. GROSSNESS.

I stumbled across this picture, though, while looking for a photograph of a baby for an ad I'm doing on intersex genital mutilation. I really like it.

I think I like it because it doesn't look like the usual pregnancy pictures - like, a standing woman with a huge belly, or arms wrapped around a belly, or maternity clothes.

I like that this woman, who is obviously somewhat slight, is sort of ballooning, and that she's wearing jeans she can't button, and that she doesn't have big pregnancy boobs.

Or something. I don't know. I also like the curve of her spine. :)

I just thought it would be interesting to add here (since you were talking about your paper topic)that...
when I was born, there was an Indian doctor on rotation... and he asked my parents if they wanted me circumsized. They replied 'We had a girl' he said, I know. I didn't even know we did that here!

When I was pregnant, I cracked parasite jokes all the time. And I'll tell you, I love my son dearly, and would never give him up, but I will never get pregnant again. Never ever! Pregnancy, labour and delivery were the worst experiences of my life.

*sighs in relief* It's so nice to know I wasn't alone in cracking parasite jokes during pregnancy. it's honestly the kind of relief that'd normally bring tears to my eyes, but right now I'd rather not since I'm dehydrated (darn crud going around).

I kinda wished I looked that good while I was pregnant, but I'm pretty sure I didn't. Won't ever know for sure since there's maybe a half-dozen pictures in existence from when I was. I did have a cute pixie-ish haircut like that when I was -- before I found out I was pregnant, I decided to have my hair cut a la a picture of Audrey Hepburn I had.

I'll also second not wanting to get pregnant again. That was the most brutally lonely time of my life with my then-significant other away and most of my friends disappearing as if pregnancy was catching. Eliminating that chance since I've been celibate since he kicked me out is one of the best things to have happened in my life other than my daughter.

There was a thing on Dateline (or 20/20) on intersex genital mutilation the other day. I thought it was interesting. They also said that intersexed females tend to be lesbian. I wonder if that's true.

I have no idea on intersexed females tending to be lesbian. That would be an interesting (but difficult) thing to research.

I wonder, though, if intersexed females (and intersexed people in general) might feel more comfortable in the lgbt community. That might explain some of it.
