Wow. I never thought this was necessary.
Feb. 8th, 2002 09:38 am1. I can be a feminist (and I am) and not hate men (and I don't).
2. I can choose to spell the word women/womyn/wimmin any way I want to. And you know what? I still don't have to hate men.
3. I can choose to want to overthrow the patriarchy. And still not hate men.
4. I can love men so much, and love women so much, that I want to see the world better for all of us. I want to raise children some day, and no, not just girl children, and I want to love them and care for them and fill their heads with peace, love, and all of those other crazy ideals I have. And I would teach them, you guessed it, not to hate men OR women. Or any that might identify elsewise.
5. Most of my romantic relationships were with boys. Nearly every single one of my closest friends has been a boy. Do I blame these boys, these /specific/ boys, for the patriarchy? For the culture? Come on. Of course not.
6. Do I think that these boys, and other boys, should recognize their privilege based entirely on what's in their pants? Absolutely. Does this mean I hate men? No.
7. Can I be a feminist, love a girl, and want to change the world and /still/ not hate men? Yes.
8. Can I battle sexism, racism, heterosexism, and capitalism without hating men, especially straight caucasian men? Yes.
9. Do I love my father? My grandfather? My brother? My uncle? My cousins? My exes? My friends? Yes.
10. Do I fight, without question, for every single living thing, male-female-otherwise, that walks this earth and breathes its air? You bet your sweet fucking ass I do.
