It just doesn't fail... all day long I felt pretty crappy because I had this nasty headache. I moped around all day and was really dragging. At first I thought it was because I was hungry, so I ate a lot and still had a headache. And then I thought maybe I was dehydrated, so I drank tons and tons of beverages and still had a headache. So I thought maybe I was spending too much time on the computer, so I made Jen and me some sandwiches and put on a movie, and (yep) I still had a headache. I was so sleepy and so cranky that as a last ditch effort, I had a Diet Coke about an hour ago.

About fifteen minutes ago, Jen decided to go to bed. So now (of course) I have no headache and I am wired. Oy. Someone needs to entertain me.

It's amazing how certain smells can evoke truly visceral responses. The smell of the ocean has always calmed me, almost as much as the sound does - that mix of sun and sand and salt spray and seagulls and other people's sunblock is so soothing. Likewise, the smell of bread baking is so homey and comfortable, even if it's the exhaust from the bread factory rather than a loaf in my own oven.

Today, Jen and I decided to try out this crock pot recipe for "beans and tuna." All day, we were supposed to cook a pound of white beans in oil, garlic and water. It all sounds so neutral and bland, but let me just assure you that it is not. We were out from about 1:30 until about 20 minutes ago, and the minute we walked in and I caught a whiff of that crockery monstrosity I almost lost my stomach (and its contents). I'm trying to seek sanctuary in the second floor, on the other side of the house, but the stench is stalking me thanks to the wonders of central air.

Oh my goodness, I think I'm going to die. Guess what we /won't/ be eating.

I just want to state for the record that My Jennifer is Everything, for she came up with the perfect solution: bake chocolate chip cookies.

All is right with the world once again.
