Singing the productivity blues.
Dec. 30th, 2004 06:00 pmOkay, so I didn't really expect to be terribly productive at work this week, and had chalked it up to a wash already, especially with there being no playgroups this week. (Playgroups usually net me about 9 hours of productivity a week.) After all, lots of people are out of town, entertaining guests, or sick this week - so you can expect cancellations as well as fewer appointments. A giant snowstorm on Monday didn't help this at all, either.
Today I had a pretty full day scheduled, even though I didn't particularly want to work a full, crazy day the night before a long weekend. I had Supervision at 8:00, and then home visits at 10:00, 11:30, 4:00, and 5:15, and an assessment from 2:00 to 4:00. Busy.
I got to supervision in a half-asleep stupor, and got ready for my day. I went to my 10:00 without incident, and got to my 11:30 to find out that while Mom was home, the child was not and she forgot I was coming. No problem. I went back to work and found out that my 2:00 was cancelled, and then later received a phone call to cancel my 4:00 because everyone is sick. So I could have technically left around 1:00 (when I received all these cancellations), except I had to stick around for my 5:15. Bummer.
I couldn't find anything else to keep myself busy, so at 4:00 I tried to drop in on a family (they weren't home) and then went home to wait for my 5:15. I crammed myself back into my damned car and went to my 5:15. AND THEY WEREN'T HOME. And I called, and I waited 10 minutes and called again, and they still weren't home. (They changed our appointment from Wednesday to Thursday on Tuesday, so it's not even like they forgot with all the holidays.) WTF is up with that??!? So then not only did I have SIX hours of billable time scheduled and only got one hour, I stuck around all freaking day for nothing.
I am so irritated with this. I suppose I should find a way to laugh it off (maybe booze will help), but it seems so freaking ridiculous that I put in four full days of work and am only getting 12 hours of productivity (goal is 23.9/week). Bonus be damned, I guess, because I'll never hit quota at this rate. Argh.
(On a more positive note, I finally got my hair cookies and mix CD from
chutup today. The post office finally relinquished it to me!! YAY! Thanks,
chutup, but I still don't understand why they're called Hair Cookies.)
