Post- sit-in shifts
Oct. 25th, 2005 10:31 pmIn order to volunteer at the HelpLine, prospective volunteers have a sit-in shift where they come in to the Lines and listen in on a shift of calls to decide if they want to volunteer. Then they go to a weekend-long training. Then they have to complete a post-training sit-in shift where they take calls while a current volunteer listens in.
Post- sit-in shifts are the best ever. I've had three of them during my last three shifts on the Lines. I haven't taken more than two calls a night in a month and a half! And it's so enlightening to hear the call without having to think of what to say!
Actually, the best part is meeting the new volunteers. All three of them have been so great. It's kind of fun to watch them become more comfortable with the phones and the callers. I can dig it.
p.s. Happy birthday to
crushinator and of course to
fukumen. I hope it was a great day for both of you, because you're both great!
