Agua Yucka
Apr. 17th, 2007 08:32 amJen and I woke up at 6 and she took another pass at the wet vac. The water seems to be receding in the ground because it's coming in more slowly than it was yesterday. The amount of water that came in between 10:30pm and 6am was only twice as much as what came in between 7:30pm and 10:30pm. So that's progress.
Water still only seems to be coming in that one corner. The wall edges on both walls leading to that corner have a dark line of wetness but they are not leaking any water. The rest of the basement is dry, and the dehumidifier really does seem to be helping in terms of drying out the parts of the floor that were soaked yesterday but haven't gotten wet since. The water keeps skirting around the washer and dryer, which is nice, and has never gotten as far as the water heater or furnace. We seem to have a dip in the center of the basement floor where the water likes to go, which seems to be sparing everything.
We're supposed to have rain intermittently through Thursday, but hopefully not like we did. By the time the weekend rolls around and things dry out, we're going to have to find someone to come in and see if we need to do something major to fix the problem, or if this was a fluke caused by bad flooding and can use a little crack sealer or something. I'm hoping for the latter but honestly have kind of given up on getting a break. At least a financial one.
Luckily, though, the water seemed to totally miss all of Jen's paintings and artwork that were on the basement floor. That is a real blessing. They are dry as a bone and are now happily stacked atop a bunch of plastic bins. And I did manage to get the pretty china in the pretty china cabinet, and it looks really cute in there (the china matches the walls, heh), so there's something.
Before work I get to have another go with the wet vac. Then Jen gets to do it again when she gets home from work. Isn't this fun?
