I have this framed photograph of me that Jennifer took in Provincetown. All you can see is my head and part of my arms, but I'm naked in it. (You can't be sure from the photo, but you can probably guess it.) I'm making this elusive face, as if I'm privvy to some cosmic secret, and the end result is that I look very young. The pose, though it was totally natural, is very High Art-esque.

I moved it from my bedroom and placed it atop the entertainment center that Mel gave me. I guess I know I'm not grown up when I got caught up in the thought, "Wonder what Mom would think about /that/?" It's obviously fairly recent, judging by hair length. I imagine her walking in, seeing the photo, and asking, "Who took that?" The thought gives me the snickers big time.

I am now jealous. I haven't been to a beach in eons.

I love both pics.

One thing that I miss about the northeast (other than the just generally more tolerant atmosphere) is the Cape. My folks are going up there for two weeks in September, and I would love to go so I can hang out in P-town, but I can't afford to do it. Fucking economy. :(

I'm going on the 18th of August. Not like I'm counting or anything. :)

I miss everything about the Northeast. I was all set to move back there after graduation, but I know that when I head east again, it's for good, and I don't think I'm ready to settle just yet.

I haven't sucked the marrow out of Columbus yet, but I miss the ocean terribly. Thankfully, my family and a lot of my friends still live in RI/MA, and I can visit on the cheap. :)

I miss Ptown.

Heh, I'm considering going west. Don't get me wrong. I love New England, and you really can't go wrong there. But I discovered something when I was out west in February that I really need to experience more of...mountains. REAL mountains.

See, one of the things I liked about growing up in the Berkshires (until my parents uprooted us) was the little towns nestled in the valley floors. Early 20th century buildings, close to the road, with the hillsides rising up behind them. It's just so awesome.

Well, when I was at the Olympics, Salt Lake had some of the similar qualities, but the mountains were MOUNTAINS. They seemed to touch the sky. And being the physical geography nerd I can be, I could sit there for days and look at every cut in the face made by every small rain-fed stream. The beauty of the world is in the details, and so few take the time to notice.

Heh. I expect pictures and fabulous descriptions of your adventures on the sand when you get back. I can live vicariously through my friends...

I'll get a battery for my camera and take photos for you, how's that? :)

I spent a couple summers working at a summer camp in the Sangre de Cristo mountains (part of the Rocky Mountain range in New Mexico), and you're right about the western mountains. The phrase "purple mountains' majesty" had never made sense to me before.

Still, I'd like to visit the mountains from time to time, but I need the ocean to root me. I spent 4 days over New Years in Rehoboth Beath, Delaware and I felt more centered than I had in a long time in Ohio.

Oh, I so totally understand about the ocean. I am a total water spirit. I think that's why I'm likely to end up in Seattle; ocean, mountains, cooler weather...the best of all possible worlds. :) The one thing that has kept me relatively sane in the last couple of years is taking trips to Niagara every few months, and letting the mist fall over me and energize me.

I have never been to Niagara. I should go.

Definately. I think it's one of the most amazing places on earth, despite all the kitzschy, tourist-trappy crap. The Falls are just phenomenal. It does sadden me that the diversion for the hydro plants has slowed the erosion process, because I find that to be all a part of the incredible beauty and awesome power of nature. But without the hydro projects, you wouldn't have the tunnels that take you to the foot of the Falls, where you can get nice and soaked when the conditions are right. So, it's a mixed blessing.

And on top of it all, I always walk out of Casino Niagara with more than I went in with. :)

Well, if you do it before the end of the year, and you need someone who knows her way around NF, let me know. I love NF. :)
