There was incredible energy this weekend. It's always uplifting to see congregations of queer youth - their enthusiasm is contagious and they have no fear. It's beautiful. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. Everyone was learning. It was thrilling to watch all of the different young people come from the usual schools in the midwest, and farther places like Toronto and New Hampshire. What a rush.

And to have connections again, if just for a weekend. Meeting Dar. Sitting in the front row for Dar. And for Suzanne Westenhoefer. And for RuPaul. Being asked to fix crises and answer questions when the staff got too busy, because I had worked there and I knew. Being known again, if just for a while, for being married to a cause. For three days I got to breathe my old passion, my old work. I was surrounded by young optimists, young thinkers, young leaders of the new revolution. They were amazing.

I laughed a lot. I smiled even more. I got to see people I haven't seen in a long while, and they missed me. There was hugging, and dancing, and reminiscing. There were autographs and conversations and ticket stubs. There was Valentines Day, and the Indigo Girls, and wrapping my arms around a cute girl who was revelling in fandom. There was snow that didn't affect work, and there were lazy times and warm blankets.

There was someone to hold my hand, and someone to drive me to campus so I wouldn't have to pay to park. There was, on and off, glimpses of partnership - and it was nice. There was talk, serious talk, and lots of it. There were hugs and kisses and hands to hold.

There was laughter and fun and playing in snow. There was a boy who helped shovel out my car, who then cleaned off my girlfriend's car. There are good times here, and good friends, and good memories. There was even an email exchange to and from the ex that was entirely un-bitter. There were cats on laps and cats on beds.

And spring will come, and all of this will be a distant memory.

Adding this to some of your thoughts from the other day...it sounds like you are ready to settle down in Columbus. Now, start working on getting that house ;-)

Oh, no no no! Columbus is not where I want to settle. It's a wonderful place and all, and I've had a fantastic time here, but I don't want to settle here. It's too cold, for one thing, and there's no ocean. I don't know if I could cope with that if I thought it was more than a temporary stop.

I think I've put off house buying until I'm somewhere I want to give 5 more years to. And I don't see myself spending more than 2 more here.
