...someone comes to your open hours explaining about how he's been persecuted for his sexual preference...

...and he's talking about beastiality. And his "wife," whom he describes as the "four fuzzy paws and bushy tail type."

Honestly, I'm a really liberal, really tolerant person, but I'm just not sure how I feel about this. I can say, though, and pat my social worker back, that I was completely neutral and supportive when talking with him. I didn't even snicker once.

...not even when he told me that he had been living in Aroostook County, Maine.

...which is where A. is from and grew up.

Question: What do you get when you put 32 Maine women in the same room?

Answer: A full set of teeth.

Uh.

I'm so proud. It's a skill you really have to develop. You have no idea how much restraint I have to exercise when dealing with the idiots in my court.

Yup, that's a test of "unconditional positive regard"...

Wow, good for you...it WOULD be hard to keep a straight face, no matter how compassionate you are.

I used to know this funny joke about Maine women and it had something to do with flannel shirts, but I forget it now.

I am /so/ right there with you. I used to have to go there ALL THE TIME. Some of those people were my in-laws.

Yikes.

Oh, you'd be surprised what a little shock will do to help with the face. I was so bewildered I didn't have /time/ to laugh. Until I got to my haircut.

And then I kind of felt bad for laughing, you know? But I think I laughed because I was so caught off guard.
