Pride!

Yeah. So tomorrow's Pride. I'm so fecking excited this year (and not only because it gets me out of unpacking for a day).

I had such a blast last year, thanks to great music and good company. I've been here long enough, and I worked in the community for a while, so I actually recognize a lot of the faces in the crowd, and that's nice. And then there's the running into people you haven't seen part, which is exciting. I love running into people in dumb places, like in the fast food line or at an intersection, but it's even more fun when it's at Pride. (And especially so when it's a surprise.)

I don't even know why it's such a big deal to me, since, well, I don't need any kind of special day to be queer in public - I do that already with or without Jennifer. And it's not like Comfest won't be another opportunity to bump into random people. But I'm excited anyway. Bouncy, even. Pride pride pride, and right on the heels of the Supreme Court decision. Yay! (And a good appetizer to our San Francisco trip!)

By the end of the night at last year's Pride, I was missing The Girl pretty hardcore. Of course, I made the mistake of calling her cell phone to leave a message while the Indigo Girls were playing "Power of Two." That brought me right to Sap Factor Eleven. But this year I have her with me, and we've just begun this amazing journey together.

So yeah, I'm proud. I'm proud of who I am, and I'm proud of what I do, and I'm proud of whom I love, and I'm proud of the new commitment we've just begun making to each other. I'm proud that I'm a social worker and that I work for change every fecking day that I live and breathe, and I'm proud that I can express myself in dress and jewelry and hair and continue to do my job. I'm proud that even in my workplace, I manage to stir things up. I'm proud that at some point or another, I've been "the first [insert thing here] person I've ever liked" to a number of people. I'm proud that I'm assumed to be queer, and that people want to hire, hang out with, and love my freak-ass anyway. And you may think this is egotistical or arrogant or self-absorbed (oh, and it is), but I'm proud of myself - I am damned good!

So yeah, Pride. BRING IT ON!

Glad you are so excited for this weekend! I remember last year's.. I had a blast at the Indigo Girls' concert. I thought it was so cool that all the women there were so open and comfortable with their friends and partners. :-)

I remember sitting on the mental scaffolding at Pride last year. Last year, I had slept and discarded one boy, while mooning piteously (yet angrily) over another. This year, I'm with the right boy.

Okay so he's on the other coast right now, but you know what I mean.

I think kipsterdude and I are going to check out the street fairs in the Village instead of going to the parade this Sunday.

Nope.. I'm not overly excited about her, and I also found that the concert Sat night was a bit much on top of the whole weekend.. there's so much going on, and people were waiting early to get good seats, etc etc.

Yeah - I was a little weirded that people had been there forever, but I was happy with my "seats" since I just wanted to listen. With Ani, I'd like to be a little closer, but don't have to.

It's a lot, but I've never missed an Ani show in my area. :)
