Worst Week Update
Jul. 10th, 2003 05:02 pmWell, let's start with the good news, shall we?
The lady from the job answered my email, and I went down there with all of my stuff and tried to catch her. I did, and handed in all the paperwork I had. She told me that the FBI fingerprint machine should be up and running at the other office tomorrow, so I am going to call tomorrow and make sure. (But then she said I couldn't officially start until they get the results back - umm, that's 4-6 weeks!! Err...) But she did assure me that the job was still open and that it was still mine, and once they got some other stuff in, they could make an official tentative offer (just hinging on the FBI results). One thing they were waiting on was a personal reference, so I called
doulamel and got her to call them and do it. THANKS MEL!! I owe you a piece of Dulce de Leche cheesecake.
So then I got home and got the mail, and I got my last paycheck from the old job. I was excited because I was supposed to get my vacation pay. At FM, you don't get any vacation until you've been there a year, and then you get 3 weeks. I've only been there 10 months, so I inquired about that, and my supervisor told me she had talked to someone in HR who told her that we would get proportional accrued vacation. So I was expecting about 2 weeks' pay, which I was going to use to pay for the washer and dryer. Well, guess what? THAT WAS A BIG FAT MISTAKE, and I called HR to learn that I am /not/ eligible for any vacation pay because I wasn't there a year. So I just got paid $1000 less than I was expecting today, and in all likelihood won't see a paycheck for 2 months. I called my supervisor and left her a message to complain, but once again, I feel stupid for going against my first hunch (no vacation pay) and letting myself bank on something I didn't have in writing. I am so foolish.
I guess I'm going to have to cash in that savings bond afterall. This irritates me, because (shhh, don't tell!) I was trying to save it, and my other savings, to buy a house in California with a girl someday. I'm thankful for /having/ the bond, don't get me wrong, but I really was hoping to avoid it by either starting work or by budgeting carefully.
Oh, and the fuckwit landlord came and installed a lint trap bucket in the apartment. Because, well, it's okay for hot air and steam to be in the apartment, but not lint. And the directions for the damned lint trap even say, in black and white, "venting indoors causes increased heat and humidity." Assholes.

And feh on the stupid ex-supervisor for getting the vacation pay bit wrong. And feh on DJFS for their dumb "base period" crap. And feh on the weather. And feh on this bronchitis that my roommate passed on to me that I'm trying to fight off. And feh, feh, feh!
(too bad I don't have a "Meanie Smurf" icon...or a slot to put it in!)

Date: 2003-07-10 08:18 pm (UTC)I talked to Scott and he says you should definitely call the better business bureau (and tell him you're doing so while you're at it)- if you still have the ad that claimed the apartment had washer and dryer hookups that would be a big plus. What fuckoffs.
... I am glad that someone called you back though ...
