pattisimmons, for me to combat my bad moods with a shift into positive thinking. I was just, of all things, washing my hair, and was about to put my shirt back on and tuck it in and all of that. And while I was slipping some food to Grendel (who is by far the piggiest cat I've ever seen), I got to thinking.
One thing that not only makes me smile, but really means a whole hell of a lot to me, is the way Jennifer's jumped at the chance to try to understand all of this gender business. I admit that I'm nowhere close to being the easiest person to figure out, and I've gotta give her credit - she makes trying to figure me out one of her top priorities. And the things she doesn't understand, she asks about, or else withholds judgment until she gets more info from me.
When I was all over the place with the progesterone and the bleeding, she was right there with me. And though, at the time, it couldn't actually change the way I was feeling, what meant the most was her ability and willingness to say, "I wish you didn't have to go through this. I can't imagine how it's fucking with you." And even when my emotions were all over the place and I was really laying into her unintentionally, she was still there and still trying to understand.
Recently, she's taken to use both "pretty" and "handsome" at different intervals when trying to flatter me, and a lot of the time she tries to take the cues from the subtleties she's gleaned from me. My Jennifer is, without a doubt, totally committed to me - so much so that she puts in more effort than anyone I've ever seen.
And that, my friends, is Something to Smile About.
