I am so infuriated with myself.

When I majorly screwed up Memorial Day weekend by double-booking (I had RSVPed to Carina's wedding, and also planned a roadtrip to visit my brother), I swore that I would never do that again, because I felt so lousy and didn't know what to do.

So because I am a supreme idiot, I did it again at the very next possible long weekend. Jennifer and I have been planning to go away for Labor Day weekend for as long as I can remember. And now I have those ridiculous plane tickets to visit my family, returning smack in the middle of Labor Day weekend. Which means that we can't go away, because I fly back on Sunday afternoon.

I really, really dislike myself right now. I feel like I could ram my head into my computer desk all day and it still wouldn't knock the idiocy out.

Labor day weekend is weird this year because it starts in August. It's an honest mistake.

Oh, I know I didn't do it on purpose or anything, I just really feel like I blew it.

I'm going to (gods willing) start a new job soon, which means I won't be able to take any sort of time off for a long time. And the next long weekend isn't until Thanksgiving. :(

I'm just so disappointed, I suppose. We don't get a lot of opportunities to go away, and I was hoping we'd get to drive up to Canada.

The whole thing makes me not want to go see my family now, because if I /do/ go I'm going to beat myself up the whole time.

But if I don't go, /they'll/ beat me up.

And if I pay the change fee to switch the tickets somehow, I won't really have the money to go away with Jen, either.

I've really just made one gigantic clusterfuck of the whole situation.

We bought candy bars to mix in the icecream just for this purpose and my husband is out with his friend to watch him get scouted...

If the idea of made icecream, which is free, does not suit your fancy, I guess I can compromise and we can go to Maggie Moos... ;)

I suggest that you write a polite letter to anyone you currently know, or will know--family, friends, next-door neighborsm, EVERYONE--stating that any activities you plan or book may not actually involve you, since you may have forgotten them and booked something else at the same time. Therefore, they should not be upset or offended, but should just be happy and go on with their lives.

Ha! That would be fantastic!

Part of the problem is my current unemployment, because I'm not regularly looking at calendars. It's no excuse, but I know if I was booking clients, I would sure as hell know when Labor Day was, because it would be a PAID DAY OFF! Right now, all my days are paid days off.

But yes, I should come with a disclaimer. Warning: Please do not make advanced plans with this person. Just call her 10 minutes before scheduled events and see if she's available.

I am always double-booking.
