I think my postal carrier is not leaving packages from our amazon.com wishlists, and is instead sending them back to amazon.com when no one is answering the door. This irks me, because amazon.com packages do not require a signature.

At the same time, I can see their reservation about leaving packages on the steps, but isn't that MY problem, and not the postal carrier's? Argh! If they sent [livejournal.com profile] cappucinogrrl's back, are they going to send everyone else's back, too?

*sigh*

You might also want to ask/complain about it at your local Post Office. They should be leaving a little "We tried to deliver this" slip (just like FedEx and UPS do), directing you to the Post Office to pick it up if they can't leave it.

I know this because the carrier we had in Dorchester didn't like to leave packages, which required a trip to the scary post office near our house.

UPS should be leaving you a note (on a yellow colored piece of paper) saying that they tried to deliver a package and couldn't for whatever reason. They are supposed to try to deliver 3 times before they do anything else. That paper will have contact info on it so you can call UPS and schedule a time to drop off something or arrange for you to pick it up at the local office.

Do you live in an apt complex? Sometimes here the UPS people just take packages to the office, a don't leave a note. Which they shouldn't do, but it happens.

I just reread what you wrote-
did you specify that the the stuff come via postal service? I didn't realize amazon used them anymore.

AND- as stated about UPS or FedEx- USPS has to "contact" you 3 times before they take any action about sending your package back to the sender. They even keep packages for a while (10 days?) before sending them back. They should have left you a postcard type of a thing in you mailbox/slot saying you had a package.

I had that problem when I live near there too. They wouldn't leave anything because of previous thefts. Apparently UPS or the postal carrier becomes liable or something...can you check at the post office to see if your stuff is there? I've picked things up there before...

Good luck. :)

UPS, DHL, FEDEX, USPS...

No normal names, apparently.

Um, for what it's worth, mine ain't UPS either...I went with the ol' USPS...

In other news, I'm still getting a hang of this livejournal stuff...it's nifty...

Ugh. This happened to me too, now I just have everything sent to the office. Go down to the post office before contacting Amazon, and if the packages aren't there and you do go ahead and contact Amazon, contact them by PHONE and not by email. Their phone number is 1-800-201-7575 and it is impossible to find it on the web site. Emailing them is a waste of time.

I have had extensive bad luck with UPS on this topic. Under SOME circumstances it seems if the package is sent priority overnight they get sent back to the sender after ONE delivery attempt. Under other circumstances, this seems to be not the case. I'm afraid all you can do is call and grouse at them. You really seem to have to lose your temper to get much done though (At least in my experience). :(

The freakin' USPS has left stuff on my front doorstep that has very nearly gotten ruined because they do so regardless of the weather.

Some chocolate someone sent me got put onto my front doorstep in the HOT August sun. And it sat there for days because it blew into the bushes and wasn't visible from the road.

Someone sent me an animation cel from an anime cartoon that involved a snake. It sat in the RAIN for a week because, once again, the USPS left it sitting by my front door, and it blew into the bushes.

Count your lucky stars. At least they make an effort to protect your mail. Mine gets treated like the newspaper.

According the the Amazon shipping tracking they tried to deliver my package on the 13th and it's been sitting in the post office since the 14th. They could be just a bunch of cocksuckers like my postment and will make attempts at delivering your package, not leave a note, and then just dump the box in the post office for a month. Give them a call, explain the situation, and get your loot.

There are a bunch of things I'm supposed to be getting in the mail. Like, I was supposed to get my parking permit for my neighborhood a long time ago.

*sigh*

Apparently Jen called the post office and spoke to our postal carrier, and he said he hasn't gotten any packages for us from amazon... so obviously it got sent back /before/ it got to our post office. Weird. I don't get it.

Yeah, UPS is pretty good about leaving a sticky note, but I don't think amazon ships UPS (if you choose standard shipping).

I live in an apartment building, but not a complex. It's a four-unit brownstone.

According to our postal carrier, he hasn't received any amazon packages for us... so they got sent back before our post office.

Weird.

But I do have some presents for you, which I will hand deliver tomorrow evening!

You're so right.

Oh, so I called the post office for my zip code, and they said I don't have any packages. Well, they said that this morning. This afternoon I got a slip for a package from amazon. So we'll see if it's yours. If not, I guess you'll have to check with Amazon to see where it was shipped.

Argh! Sorry about this.

Thanks for the phone number. I am still trying to locate a package, but I /did/ get a slip today.

I didn't have an office to send stuff to until 2 weeks ago... and I don't know the office etiquette about that sort of thing yet.

Haha! That's what my post office said, too. That's how I ended up with two orders of candles. "NO! We don't have your package, you stupid whore!" Then when I get it there is a stamp on it from three weeks previous of when they 'tried' to deliver it.
