Brandie's mom has got it going on.
Jan. 18th, 2004 10:04 amLJ is not being kind to me today. All of the journals I want to reply in are read-only. So to
laughingsal, I want to say that it was nice to see you last night, and to
girlblah, I want to offer my condolences and thoughts. Also, I wish
pattisimmons good luck on the sleep front (Sleep is a many splendored thing!), I am sending good luck vibes to
kat_chan, and I want to play with
sudrin's new camera. Phew!
The concert last night went pretty well, although the whole thing started like a goofy movie. For starters, the weather was pretty craptacular (it had been sleeting all day and had turned to cold rain) and Columbusians aren't known for their skill at driving in bad weather or their inclination to do so, so I was wondering if people would even come. And then... there were the people in garb! HUZZAH! I got a ride to the church from
Brandie's family, and when we got there at 5:45 (for a 7:30 concert), the parking lot was totally full. When we walked around to the door, there were TONS of people in garb milling about - I guess they were having some sort of event. They were taking up the whole building - the lobby, the cry room, the room where we were supposed to keep our stuff, the coat room, everywhere! And they were having some sort of dinner event, so the /entire/ building smelled like MEAT PIES. Disgusting. So yeah, we managed to corral all of the Shakespeare Society (I think that's what they were called, something like that) into the Fellowship Hall where they were supposed to be, and boggled like mad that the church failed to mention to our director that there was an enormous event scheduled on the same night as our concert. Our director asked all of the singers to park their cars at a store down the street (and walk back in the rain) in order to free up some spots for audience members - yet another chapter in the "I wonder if people will actually come" book.
But people /did/ come, the place was pretty close to packed and people seemed to have a good time. I learned that I currently have the shortest hair in all of chorus, and I think I was the only one who didn't wear makeup, which is pretty odd because I'm going to be completely frank and say that some of the women just should NOT wear makeup. Ever. Okay? Yeah. So anyway, we made it through all of the songs without screwing up majorly /anywhere/, which is a major achievement given our rehearsal on Friday. And while I couldn't really hear what I was singing because my ears and nose are blocked, I somehow managed to know all the words to all the songs, including the silly sing-along (What the World Needs Now) that they told us about on Friday, and that was being sung way higher than half of the chorus can even sing. So that was a plus! I may have been off-key, but I think I kept it pretty quiet (because I couldn't hear myself) and I'm sure the audience didn't even notice. It was pretty fun, although some of the women get weepy at some of the songs, and weepy women always put me on edge a little. I don't know why - I guess I'm a misogynist that way.
My friend Daedre agreed to come to the concert, and I hooked her up with
Nikki,
Eric, and my Jennifer so she would have people to sit with. After the concert, Jen and I convinced her to come to Bernie's with us for
Ryan's birthday party. She was a big hit, of course, because she is so cool!
I had fun at Bernie's. I stuck to my guns and only had one beer, and was feeling pretty good until it got really smoky. That was around the same time that we discovered that we were all ravenous, so a bunch of us headed to Steak 'n Shake and planned to come back to Bernie's. By the time we finished eating, though, I was totally exhausted and feeling somewhat lousy, so we didn't come back. I'm sorry, Ryan. :( I'm also really sorry that I didn't get to spend more time with
Saci because I haven't seen her since last forever, and I miss her a lot. So perhaps I will have to drive down to Cincy and see her when Beaky isn't sick.
So for the most part, yesterday was a good day. It started off kind of rough because I was feeling /really/ crappy, but things perked up and I'm really glad with how it turned out. And I buzzed my head again, so it was all fuzzy and wonderful and *purr*...
Thank you SO much to Nikki and Eric and Daedre and Jennifer and Curt and
Jason and
Ashley and Brandie's mom and
Hope and Megan for coming to the concert! :)
p.s. Brandie's mom kissed me on the lips. ON THE LIPS!!
