My day at work ended horribly - a ridiculous conglomeration of the police, removing four louse-infested children from their home with no working utilities (!!!), an extra hour of work, doing someone else's job, hating my coworker, lots of snow, people driving ten miles per hour, having to buy lice spray for my car, and washing my work clothes in hot water. I didn't get to do the things I was actually /supposed/ to do, of course. ARGH!

I am /so/ not meant for this. And I need to stop feeling itchy and paranoid now. Kthxbye.

Ah, reminds me of my childhood. My dad, Michael landen, and my mom rosanne barr would try to make us kids do chores like muck out the barn, or run to the store and buy 50 sacks of potato chips, you know. It was horrible. But eventually pops died, and us kids and rosanne got to move in with uncle tom in his cabin, and that was loads better. We even had sea monkeys to play with,..no.. wait, they may have been lice, but it was better than shoeing horses, huh?

Anyway, hang in there, at least until you are sure that you have lice. Because then you can strip down and have people throw powdered sugar all over you like Farva in Super Troopers, and of course sugar is tasty, and maybe even sexy!!

I once transported a kid to a placement 2 hours away and gave her a hug then found out she had lice the next day. I sprayed and vaccumed my car, and didn't get lice.

Good luck, and my sympathies. Child wellfare ain't pretty.

The work you're doing is infinitely valuable, though. (I may disagree with parts of it, but not the aim of it.) I doubt anyone would enjoy the day you just had, but the work is so damn important. I have faith in your ability to carry on regardless.

That is never the fun part of the job. Sucky job stuff on top of sucky SNOW and other assorted crap. Bleh.

I didn't vacuum, but I did spray. I didn't see any nits on the kids but they were complaining that they were itchy. One of the kids was in a car seat so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there are no bugs in my car! :)

What /really/ pisses me off is that I think this whole crisis could have been avoided if the previous caseworker (my former coworker, aka THE DEVIL) had actually done her effing job.

There's quite a bit that I disagree with as well, so don't worry about it.

Personally, if we paid parents the same per diem that we pay foster parents, I think we'd reduce Neglect cases /significantly/.

Of course. You know, I'm really surprised how /conservative/ some social workers are. Especially here in the midwest. I always thought all social workers were wacky welfare-lovin' liberals. And then I went to school here. BOY WAS I WRONG!

Yeah, my dad is a radical Republican social worker. He used to be a socially conscious member of the ACLU, back in the day, but twenty-five years of working for the State have embittered him.
