Yeah. Same-sex marriage in Massachusetts. Sweet. As early as mid-May.

Maybe a quiet little hitching in P-town in the late spring would be lovely. Though I keep reminding myself that 2004 is my [livejournal.com profile] smurfbrother's year. It's just all so exciting, you know? Aie!

My beloved Bucky and I decided that we should make one of those rainbow-US flags, and only color in one star, leaving the other 49 blank. And then keep filling them in as people get it right.

Will you give any credit to the civil union states, like half coloured?

That's a pretty cool idea, that flag. I hope you get to color all the stars some day.

And now, Queer Question From the Straight Guy:

Is Skittles the official candy of Gay Pride?

Jude, you know I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...I think MA has 6 month residency requirements to get a marriage license. Hopefully that will change, too. I suspect it might, because their bureau of tourism would love it.

Excuse me while I kick myself in the pants for being a party pooper.

According to http://www.state.ma.us/sec/cis/cismrg/mrgidx.htm

How do we apply for a marriage license?

You must both apply in person for a marriage license. This requirement is applicable to both residents and non-residents of the Commonwealth. According to Massachusetts law, you must jointly file intentions to marry, and you may do so with the city or town clerk in any community in the state. If a person is in the military, intentions may be filed by either party, providing one is a Massachusetts resident. If a person is incarcerated in a county house of correction or a state correctional facility, intentions may be filed by either party. A marriage license, once obtained, is valid for 60 days from the date intentions are filed and may be used in any Massachusetts city or town. It is not valid outside the state.

"quiet little hitching"

Um...reality check?

Won't there be all manner of *other* people wanting to get hitched in P-Town? How about someplace more exotic like Salem or Lennox?

The location means quite a lot to us.

Our first vacation together, after Rehoboth, where we met again after many years.

According to the law in some states, if someone even has a black ancestor four generations back, they themselves are black.

Does that mean if my great-great-great-great-grandmother was a lesbian, I am too? :)

Sorry, all this talk of colored and half-colored got me thinking. ;)

I stand corrected. I will have to pass that info onto my friend who is in college in Boston right now.

Did you see that the marriage license costs between $4 and $15? That's unbelievable! I think the IL ones cost $30 or more.

In my past life, I got married in Rhode Island. I'm pretty sure we paid $10 for our marriage license, with no medical form/blood test required.

It cost A LOT more to get divorced. :)

Well, actually, my great-great-great-great-grandmother wasn't a lesbian that I know of, but my uncle-by-marriage's sister is, and I figure that counts. I want my one drop of gay blood, dammit.

I think you should color in the 6th star on the flag (Massachusetts was 6th into the Union : http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0763770.html) otherwise people'll think you're celebrating something about Delaware.

There's a funny little birth control speech that you have to get at the doctor's office before you get married in Mass. After she'd finished her spiel, I asked the nurse practitioner, "for the first time in my life, I might actually want to get someone pregnant - why are you telling me about birth control now?"

Date: 2004-02-05 09:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Aaah, that's because there used to be a (unconstitutional) law on the books in the past that forbade married couples from receiving information about birth control. Massachusetts must be overcompensating for that ages-old ruling. :)

p.s. I want to knock someone up, too!!

Your brother does not think that any marriage you might enter into this summer in any way steals his thunder, "his time," or anything else..at least, to the extent that your nuptials do not interfere with my collecting hoards of well-deserved wedding loot.

As Francis put it in Stripes, "Anybody touches my stuff, and I'll kill you."

I do believe what he said was, "Any of you homos touch me... and I'll kill you." What was his name? Psycho? I always want to call him "Chainsaw," but I don't think that's right.

Don't worry, you will get ALL THE LOOT. Because, well, I got the loot already. No more loot for meeeee.

Yeah, his name is psycho, and he does say what you say he said, and he also says what I say he says. He has 3 lines. :)
