Yeah, yeah, so we should know better than to have tried to plan things for Valentine's Day, because we're not so great at planning and both have pretty bad luck in that department. Oops.

The Original Original plan was for Jen to take Monday off (I have a holiday) and for us to go away for the weekend, since she will be out of town for work the last week of February. We were going to rent a cabin in the Hocking Hills and just soak in a hot tub all weekend, but by the time I actually started inquiring about places we wanted to rent, they were way booked. So then we were going to road trip somewhere, possibly Atlanta. Original Plan #2. This fell through because we were having difficulties planning something, and decided to save the money.

Cue Original Plan #3 - a low-key Valentine's Day, but with reservations at some cutesy-wutesy romantic restaurant like everyone else. How cliche. Anyway, about two weeks ago, we started calling restaurants, only to find that they were all booked! Since there are about 4 good restaurants in all of Columbus, I suppose we should have planned more in advance. So about a week and a half ago, Jen called The Burgundy Room, which is a classy-pants wine and tapas place, to see if they were taking reservations that night (they do not usually accept reservations). The person Jen called confirmed that it was indeed first-come, first-served, even on Valentine's Day. So we made a New Revised Plan that involved hitting The Burgundy Room early, say 5ish, and hoping to get a table and spend the next several hours drinking too much wine and eating too many tapas. We got pseudo-dressed-up and everything.

*cue the suspense music*

So yeah, we get to The Burgundy Room at 4:50 or so, and there is a woman at the door with a list. "What kind of list?" you might be asking, and the answer would be, of course, a Reservation list. We walk in, and she says it's reservation only, that they're all booked up, that they never take reservations but the owner decided about two weeks ago to take V-Day reservations. Jen explains to her that she called about 1.5 weeks ago and was reassured it was first-come, first-served. The woman offered no sympathy, and two seats at the bar. Umm, no, not quite. She was rather smug and offered as an explanation, "I'm sorry, you were given wrong information." When we left the building, Jen said she was pretty sure she was the one she spoke to on the phone. Great.

So now we were starving, ready to eat out, and there was no way we were getting in anywhere pseudo-datish. Jen really likes Quaker Steak and Lube (a wings place), and she was /really/ upset and angry about Tapasgate, so I suggested it and she wanted to go. We figured that if we were having Trash Valentine's, we might as well pick up Daina. She's the trashiest! (She proved this by admitting that when I rang her doorbell, she was frying eggs wearing nothing but kneesocks.)

It was a little busy up there, but we got seated and picked bones like vultures, surrounded by the romantic atmosphere of sports events, racing cars, and the smacking of our meaty lips. In other words, we had a blast! Daina convinced us to go to Wall Street for the Royal Renegades Drag Show, our first trip to Wall since (dear gods) New Years Eve 2002, and I'm so glad she did because I got to lick her chocolate vagina and had a great time. We saw Patience and Jason-David and Oli (who wrote an impressive Vagina Monologue) and Lauren and Mindi and PJ, though Daina chastised us for cheating on her with "other friends." And Daina was all cutesy-smoochie with a really adorable girl in suspenders, and it was so frickin' cute to watch.

It wasn't what we'd planned, but by the time we got home, showered, and enjoyed a little post-v-day fun, I'd say we had a pretty awesome day. We're not planners, that's for damn sure, but we still know how to make a good time! (With special thanks to Daina for all of her making out help!)
