The things we own end up owning us.
Mar. 6th, 2004 06:04 pmIn thinking ahead to moving, I'm trying to kind of look through/think about what I own to see what I want to part with. Moving is so cathartic for me because even though I'm pretty anti-materialist, I still seem to amass some stuffage. When I move, I'm usually pretty effective at sorting out some crap. So far I've decided that I can get rid of some of the Philmont trinkets I've saved (necklaces and drawings that kids made for me), and I think I might try to sell some of my Boy Scout patches on eBay - the council strips and duplicate Philmont patches, because I want to keep at least one Philmont Staff patch for myself.
I need to go through lots of old paperwork and shred/rip/bury under cat litter lots of old bank statements and stuff that I've been holding for so long. I suppose it's true that I could get audited some day, but if they want to nail me for, like, the $10K I made most years then they can have at it. I may also go through my books again and see if I can dump some. I hate getting rid of books/CDs but there are a few that might make the cut. I'm also currently trying to decide if I want to try to sell my Living Dead Dolls on eBay. I like them, but I haven't even taken them out of the box I moved them into this apartment in, and I can't say I've really missed them. Likewise, I have a Queen I'mAHottie doll that I don't need, but I'm not sure I'd get any money for it. Ditto for my scanner and ink-jet printer. Maybe we could have ayard driveway sale.
Jen is selling her old dorm fridge today. Hooray! It's been sort of an eyesore, and what are we going to do with a mini-fridge? I think we're also going to part with my old metal futon, her big wardrobes, and the entertainment center when we move. The futon has outlived its welcome and I'd rather replace the entertainment center with something nicer. When we move, I'd also like to score a new (king-sized) bed, like
chutup's "space bed" (it's out of this world!) if possible. Why does everything cost money?
I'm considering asking my grandfather for the last of my CDs. Decisions, decisions. We're trying to con Bucky into moving with us, too. Hee!
