I really should be in bed right now. chutupCari was sweet enough to let us use her Showtime On Demand to watch episodes 6, 7, and 8 of "The L Word." Next week we can watch 9 and we'll be all caught up to watch the new one. We've been watching them in 3 episode spurts. We also get to lay on her Space Bed. (It's out of this world.) Thanks, Cari!

I've been feeling all weird, and I'm wondering if I'm about to get my yearly period. I hope not, because the one I got last year was incredibly heavy and disgusting. And I'm just not in the mood. However, it would explain Friday night's ridiculous freak out. (Or I could chalk it up to my sheer insanity.)

I don't think I properly thanked Sean and Bart for throwing a good party and bringing so many cool people to one convenient location. Or Ryan for filling my ears with his diatribe about Foxy Boxing. I noticed last night that when I Roshambo with Sean, I start with "rock," but whenever I Roshambo with Ryan, I use "scissors." Once, Ryan and I did "scissors" together for about 11 straight challenges. Then I broke down, did "rock," and won. I am the Roshambo master.

Lots of people, queer and straight alike, have stated that pushing for the word "marriage," is too much, too risky, too bold, too whatever. These people say that we should accept small steps, like civil unions - to take the state-sanctioned benefits and cool off for a while, because "the world's not ready" or some crap like that. I think in some instances, small steps are acceptable. But when it comes to civil rights? Can you imagine African-Americans in the 1960s chastising each other: "Well, Martin, they offered to /clean/ the 'Colored' bathrooms up a little, isn't that enough? Let's not push it just yet."

The time is now. MY time is now.

I'd agree with you except for one simple fact. The Government should have nothing to do with marriage in the first place. Marriage is the province of religion, and the State(tm) should only be sanctioning civil unions between two people. If you want the sacrament/ceremony/whatever of marriage sanctioned, go to the individual religion in which you wish to be married. Don't ask the Government. Petition the Government for the civil partnership because that's all they should be doing in the first place (if that).

I should be in bed too, but I'm antsy and discombobulated about a bunch of miscellaneous "stuff." Said "stuff" ranges from things I've read lately in peoples' journals, to events I've heard about or witnessed recently, to larger social patterns and trends, to my daily interactions with friends and relatives and strangers alike. I'm quick to hostility lately, I feel as if everyone on earth is close minded and I want to know "why?"

Maybe I'm just premenstrual. But I kind of just want to scream "RAWRRRR" and jump in bed and pull the covers up for 924759347539487 years.

On another note - we need to go to parties and play "brushie hair" more often. That was uber relaxing!

One, you have to be clear you mean to go all the way. Civil partnership, or whatever you want to call it, is between any two consenting non-related adults. It provides a set of legal partnership benefits consistent with what we now call civil marriage.

But it'll never work. Attempting to forcibly add a new term to the language to distinguish legal contract from social/religious ceremony does not fix the core of the problem (discrimination), and there's really no guarantee it'll work anyway. How many different names have we had for Americans of African descent over the last 30 years, post civil rights? And we still have discrimination against them.

We have a word. It's "marriage". Many (civil) marriages already don't happen in churches, and many (social) marriages between people who aren't YET allowed to establish that legal contract do happen in churches. If someone's religion makes the latter a problem for them, I encourage them not to attend anyone else's church.

Well of /course/ the Government should have nothing to do with marriage! But it does, and has for a bazillion years. After all, the only way a religious officiant can legally perform a marriage is by being a representative of the State.

Sure, it would be all cool and funky if the USA dropped the term "marriage" altogether, same-sex and opposite-sex couples alike would enter into legal civil unions that could then be blessed as a sacrament by their chosen religious communities, but let's face one thing: that's not going to happen. The USA has used the term "marriage" for too long to all of a sudden flip the script on them. Marriage is not just a religious term, it's a civil term, and creating a new term just to appease some people on the basis of religion is exactly the sort of thing Separation of Church and State was meant to protect against.

I like playing "brushie hair"! I like to brushie girlies' hair, but as you can probably guess, I don't get a lot of opportunities. :) Maybe someday we can also play "braidie hair."

I'm sorry you're up because of a bunch of "stuff" and "junk." If you need/want to talk about anything, I should be home by 5:00pm, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Don and Eddy rock-paper-scissors for EVERYTHING. Over whether to smoke a bowl, what movie to rent, where to go, the time of the apocolypse... anything.

I think they may be infecting me.

We could do breakfast at Pete's sometime. We just can't make a habit of it, because you know how much I love my bed. :)

I had fun the last time we had breakfast at Pete's.
