Pet Peeve of the Day: When a coworker uses your computer to look not at work-related websites, but at conservative Christian websites that are inflammatory against groups of people that might be in the workplace... and doesn't have the knowledge or common sense to delete the browser history. Seriously, people, the last thing I want to see on my history is a link to this crap. Click Here for a "MUST READ" book exposing the Darker Side of the DALAI LAMA. See his ties to Nazi Germany, the SS and the plans of conquering Hollywood to bring the USA under this dark spiritual dominion.

Minor Annoyance of the Day: Dry, chapped hands.

Fatty Food of the Day: Fish and chips at Bucket O' NailsTM. Yum.

Distraction of the Day: Ja-Ru Paddle Ball.

Exciting Plan of the Day: Go home. Oil bike chain. Put air in bike tires. Ride bike. Have dinner with [livejournal.com profile] elspazz0. Wish [livejournal.com profile] crena a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

She is doing that crap again?

Can you complain to someone? That just sucks....

Tell me again why she is using your computer?

I am guessing you and Sarah are eating dinner before I get back and I should pick up something during volunteering?

Obviously, the appropriate response is to anonymously leave all kinds of anti-Christian stuff on his/her/its computer. Preferably as the default home page. :)

Makes me like my Sunday schoolers all the more. The girls didn't want to put a picture of the D.L. on their poster of "what is a neighbor?"

When I asked why, they said, "Because he's FAMOUS! I'd never have anyone famous live near me."

I don't know your co-worker, so maybe this doesn't apply, but my history is FULL of hate sites and white power sites and anti-gay sites ... but that's because people send me links to them all the time (in case mail and from SPLC) and I am obscenely curious about why these people think the way they do.

To give coworker the benefit of the doubt, maybe she's like me and is just drawn to them like a train wreck?

Oh no, she's totally psycho. Trust me. This is daily reading for me.

I know because the same links are on other people's computers, too. (She doesn't have a computer here.)

If she /had/ a computer, she wouldn't be using all of ours.

ARGH!!

This time it was Tambourine's computer.

I'm so sorry! I meant to call you about dinner but got wrapped up in other things. :( Sarah asked me to get dinner with her. Sorry.

Ugh. That's scary, Jude. :(

I thought you guys had a no-surfie policy while at work. Didn't I see something about that in your LJ a while back?

Well, then the obvious solution is to leave that stuff on your computer. And have everyone else in the office do the same. :)

My old job had a no-surfie policy. This one doesn't. Well, sort of. There is a policy that the Internet use should be work-related. But the founder of the organization forbid the IT department from tracking people's Internet use.

I think.

I agree that these sites are bullshit. But from the information you have provided, this seems like one of those situations that an objective observer with some relevant experience can offer some useful advice. As I see it, your options are:

1) If you think that this coworker does not know how to erase the history from your chosen browser (and many people do not), then you should either A) respect their privacy and stop checking the sites that they visit, B) Tell the coworker to find another terminal to view websites (make up a reason, or confront them), or C) Confront the coworker with what you have found and tell them that you disagree with these positions and engage in a debate. The A and B options are easy, C is difficult (especially if she's a psycho).

2) Similarly, If you think that this coworker intentionally left those links in the history, then you can either A) Ignore them, B) Deny them use of your computer, or C) Confront them.

I was in a similar situation several years ago in an academic environment. I was sharing a computer with a colleague (another graduate student) whose transsexual fetish I discovered through the browser history of our shared computer. I chose option 1.A. Knowing that my colleague did not know how to erase the history of the brower, I respected his privacy and did not click on the links in the history that were not mine. This was a slightly different situation than yours since we had equal access to the computer and I'm not personally offended by transsexuals, so it might not be the right choice for you.

Hope this helps in removing one more source of irritation from your life.

I think we should fill our computers with Buddhist icons so she won't go near them. :)

I really don't even know why she's using everyone's computers in the first place. I realize that her particular job does not provide her with a computer, but if she needed a computer to do work stuff I would let her.

But she doesn't ask. She walks into offices without people sitting in them and then reads all of her ridiculous crap. And now it's on my officemate's computer, and let me just tell you, she's going to FLIP OUT tomorrow because she's already said she's offended by this stuff.
