On the plus side, though, I have a job interview tomorrow at a really amazing organization that has a lot of financial stability. This is TEH GOOD. On top of that, it's a good career opportunity, and by that I mean, it's the sort of opportunity that most people get MSWs for. It's a very clinical position, involving play therapy and behavioral therapy for preschool children in the care setting, and parenting education out in the community. It provides LICSW supervision and is a job opportunity for MSW/LCSWs only, which means it's somewhat of a "status job" in that respect. This is different than in Ohio where BSWs and MSWs were often competing for the same case management jobs.

This probably only makes sense to [livejournal.com profile] kyoki_tenchi and [livejournal.com profile] vorpalbla and [livejournal.com profile] serenity_coach7 but there you have it. The problem is that a straight-up clinical job isn't really the sort of job I /want/, even though it would be good for me. So I am trying to psych myself up for it hardcore. On top of being an excellent career opportunity with a lot of room for growth and education, there are also a couple of programs that I would love to work my way up and run once I get all of my LICSW supervision. Specifically a group home for queer youth. So I'm really going to try to sell myself tomorrow.

Send me your best social work-y vibes!

I promise to write something that isn't boring soon. No, really.

Status jobs are good for 1. excellent supervision 2. good training/on the job experience 3. MAKING CONNECTIONS/NETWORKING.

#3 is of course, the most important for your longer-term goals. Getting in the know with people who fund things, can make referrals, or are community leaders is where you want to be for program development.

Best of luck! :)

We are thinking of you two little chickens in your new coop. I think the fact that you HAD a budget plan and that you have interviews arranged puts your several steps up over most of us. You'll do great!

Keep on psyching, this is a kickass opporunity.

Dammit, I wish I had a status job. I am a case manager in a workplace where the other case managers aren't licensed in ANYTHING.

Thanks, mama. Hopefully they will like me. I'll even take out my lip ring for the occasion. (Ha! Then I will have a BIG HOLE instead!)

I hear ya. It's a totally different playing field out here. In Ohio, it seems like the only guaranteed "status jobs" are for LISWs, and so that means you have a WHOLE lot of legwork before you can ever get there. Here I'm appreciative of the intermediate LCSW license because hospital jobs and most therapist type jobs won't take anything less.

Of course, I applied for a lot of macro-level jobs that pretty much will take anyone and also pay diddly squat, so I'm hoping that if I /do/ score this clinical job, I'll see some benjamins or something.

I need some Bling x 2.

Jen had three interviews on Thursday and Friday right after we arrived - she is amazing! I had two interviews in May and one last week, and I seriously doubt anything will come from them. But I am crossing my fingers about tomorrow!!

Yeah, but you know me, I'm a mess of anxiety and a hellacious planner. I have to plan everything. Everything, I tell you!

But what I would really like is to plan for you guys to visit. Because we already miss you!
