I liked this one so much I stole it shamelessly from [livejournal.com profile] prunesnprisms:

There's a huge chunk of you out there whose LJs I read every day - but in a lot of cases, I don't know how old a lot of you are, or where you live, or basic, normal things.

This is the problem with LJ - we all think we are so close, and while we know about the day-to-day, there's still a lot we don't know about each other. So let's rectify it.

I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. I promise, I will not make fun of you, or say who asked what; I won't divulge any social security numbers and stuff, but I'll try to answer everything - personal, fandom - whatever.

I then invite you to do the same. Remember, seriously basic stupid questions, don't be embarrassed, you would be really shocked what I don't know about you.

Forgive me if this is way personal, but what was up with the whole being married thing?

Ha! Nothing is too personal. (Although I don't post poop pictures.)

I was in a relationship with my (now ex-) husband for nearly six years. We met and got together when I was 20 years old. I was exploring my sexuality around that time and he really just happened to be at the right place at the right time, and was also a really cool, nice person.

So we started dating (long distance), and we kept dating (distance has a way of making relationships last longer, at least for me), and I'm sure you know the kind of pressure that families can put on couples who have been together for any length of time. Well, his family and my family started laying on the pressure and it started to become really important to him to get married, so we got engaged with no wedding date in sight.

However, we moved in together and I got a job at the college he was attending, and after lots of discussion, it seemed in our best interests to set a wedding date and get married (for the benefits, not the least of which was college tuition) since neither one of us had any intentions of breaking up.

But we did break up. Eventually things just got bad. I suppose several years of not having sex will do that. ;)

Minus the marriage (and, well, the whole lesbian thing), that sounds disturbingly like my last relationship. :-/

I'd say it's true for a lot of relationships. Bleh.

With which hand do you pick your nose? Or, if you want to leave boogers out of it, are you left- or right-handed? And if you want to leave boogers in it (well, then, you're not picking your nose, are you?) which is your preferred diggin' digit?

I'm right handed. But I'm ambidextrous in some things, including nosepicking.

I tend to be an index-finger-user.

Are there any moments that, in retrospect (or even, I guess, as they were happening) seem especially significant 'turning points'? More than the regular everything-we-do-effects-everything-else, points at which things swung in a whole new direction or led to a whole new set of realizations?

I got one.

What's your username on TIM? I SO can't remember.

And I've also been occasionally confused by your posts regarding "hot dates" with your "boyfriend."

My user name on time is D'Arcy. I haven't logged in for a million years. :)

[livejournal.com profile] whod81 is my boyfriend. He is the best boyfriend ever! He asked me out via AIM two years ago. I am his longest relationship. We used to go on dates and then he became a drunk. But I still love him. Isn't that always the way with boys?

(He used to be my seekrit boyfriend but then everyone found out about it!) (And yes, it's all very silly.)

I was actually looking through photo albums the other day while putting in Lorac's wedding pics and came across your wedding photos...

I love reading your LJ every day. Keeps me sane to know old friends don't really change. But I do get melancholy when I think about how many couples we've known (and attended weddings for) that are no longer together.

I'm also infinitely happy to have you back on this coast... you must come and check out our new place... pics of freshly painted house troutberry.blogspot.com

Would you believe it's been ten years we're together?

No one's outfoxed me on this one yet, I see. So. My question. Here 'tis. Comin' atcha. Betchacan'twait.

Everyone has a set of criteria for memorable moments; being surrounded by fascinating architecture, enjoying an unforgettable meal, stellar company, or something as simple as a profound sense of 'peace' and 'rightness' with the world while swaddled in blankets eating an entire pint of Ben and Jerry's with a spoon made for dishing salads.

What is your most recent experience in this state?
Also, boxers or briefs? Ha!

I stole it from [livejournal.com profile] reveries. I'm pretty sure she doesn't mind, as long as she gets credited in the name of the icon.

Given you don't seem interested in being a clinician, what made you chose an MSW, and the clinical track no less? Did you consider an MPA or the like? Or a Big Gay Degree Program for that matter?

It has definitely been a long time. Yay for you guys!

I am excited to be on this coast and be closer to old friends (p.s. We will come to your July 3rd party). You know I adore you and John and am looking forward to seeing you more (and more of you, ooh ooh ooh).

It's true that a number of people/couples (myself included) have split up, but I don't necessarily see it as a sad thing as long as the person/people are better off on the other side. I know that if A. and I were still together today, we would both be miserable and that would be bad.

See you soon!

I do. I really do.

Days like today, when we spent the afternoon having a Father's Day celebration with my grandparents, father, aunt, uncle and cousin and then came home after an easy 40 minute drive make it easy. Similarly, the thought of my father and grandfather driving up to our apartment to see a baseball game with us. It's so nice to have familiar things, familiar places, a more welcoming attitude, and my family.

Hey now, I want to be a clinician (in some ways), I just don't want to be a therapist. ;)

I like doing direct service, I just don't like mental health direct service. I don't want to open my own private practice or do talk therapy. I like to get dirty and help people, I'd just rather do something more community-focused.

Basically, I got an MSW because I have a superhero complex. As for why I didn't go administrative, it's because I felt like the interpersonal and change agent skills I could develop in the clinical program would be valuable in /any/ career (even administrative), while the administrative track would limit my options somewhat.

So there. =P

1. My memories are colored by whimsical fantasy and often exaggerated. Or, at least I /fear/ they are exaggerated. I can tell you that the last time I felt a profound feeling of 'right'ness was in the car this evening on the way home from my aunt&uncle's house. We'd gone out there for a Father's Day celebration of sorts and about 10 minutes after we came in, my uncle took Jen on a tour of the house/yard because she'd never been there before. This is my family, and all is right with the world.

2. Briefs. From Victoria's Secret no less. But sometimes boxers.

Hrm. I'm not sure, really.

I don't believe I've ever done a 180 in my life. Hrm. Let me think.

I remember a time when I was 17 years old. I was sitting in my AP Biology class during third period and we had a 15 minute break to watch Square One TV (a daily news and media program for high schools). Square One had current events and also a weekly topic. This particular week's topic was child abuse.

I had repressed and buried years of child abuse inside of me and hadn't given it a second thought. I watched a two-minute montage on this television program and felt my heart rate begin to accelerate, and then pound. I was shaking. My mouth dried out. I was glued to the television set.

When the program ended, I grew increasingly distracted. I couldn't think. I was jumping out of my skin. Several class periods later, in Calculus, my best friend slipped me a note asking me what was going on. I wrote, "Remember that thing on Square One?" The words were difficult to write. "That happened to me," my hand scribbled, "that happened to me for years and I didn't consciously realize that until today."
