Weekend Wedding Recap
Jul. 12th, 2004 03:52 pmWe had such a fantastic time in Missouri for the wedding. Seriously good.
We got to Grandma's around 7pm on Thursday night so we could sleep over before heading to the airport at 6am. In a 'what did you do to my REAL grandmother?' moment, I told her that I would give the spare bedroom to Jen and she said, "Why? You can't share a bed?" So umm, yeah Grandma, twist my arm. We went to bed fairly early and got up on time to head to the airport, which was uneventful. Our planes were mostly on-time and we got to St. Louis at 12:30ish.
The only snag was at the rental car place. The car they gave us was totally cool and bright yellow (which I love), but it had some sort of anti-theft device in it that they forgot to remove ahead of time, so they gave us a maroon car instead (boo) that was covered in hail damage. That cost us some time and we got to Columbia around 3:00. Amusement of the day was reserved for Gretchen's family, who, upon seeing me, definitely knew that
Baga and I are related.
We had a meet-and-greet on Friday night at Boone's Tavern, where we ate yummies and chatted. G's family is quite nice and everyone had a good time. Also, my parents did not kill each other. Friday night we stayed at G's friends' house, although we did not meet them until Saturday morning (which was a bit awkward). They, however, are super nice and their kids are adorable, so much Candy Land was played. We then picked up some lunch and brought it to my brother's house.
DID I MENTION THAT LUNCH WAS CHIPOTLE?!?!???! YOM YOM!
Yeah, so, my mom rented us a hotel room for Saturday night so we wouldn't inconvenience anyone (and so we could crank the AC into oblivion!) and we went there to get ready for the reception. We got to the Country Club (hello, snooty rich golfers!) and took family photos, and then had the par-tay and the foodles.
It really was a great time all-around, but I have to say that my highlights include having Jennifer in all of the family photos, getting to slow dance with my cute girl a bit, singing some old school rap with G, watching Jen dance with my father, and the distinct lack of glass-clinking-induced-smooching that I despise. Sweet! (Not to mention the fact that my brother and G looked so happy and adorable!) The only mildly annoying thing was when I was leaning against Jen and my grandmother scolded me about not flaunting what I do behind closed doors, which pissed me off royally because it made Jen incredibly uncomfortable. She apologized later and stated that she didn't want people to stare at us, but still, ick. Aah well.
After the wedding, we put the hotel room to good use. =P (Behind closed doors and all...)
We got up yesterday morning, ate breakfast, said our goodbyes, and headed out. We got to the STL at 11:45ish and then had an absolutely horrendous experience with Delta that got us on the ground in Providence at, oh, 12:45am and to Boston at 2ish. Suffice it to say that we will never fly Delta again. It's not even worth me writing them a complaint letter, because if they sent me a voucher we would have to fly them again. Heck, that's why we flew Delta in the first place, because I had a voucher from the LAST time they screwed me over. Argh!
So yeah, it was the best ever! YAY! :) More wedding! More more more more more!!
