(Yeah yeah, I know it's Monday.)

Friday during the day was spent getting ready for the houseguests. I went around cleaning up like a nut and Jen had a phone interview and a face-to-face interview. I tried to finish up some of the loose ends I'd left hanging, and stuffed some things in a closet so our guests wouldn't have to look at them. I think the apartment looked really nice. When Jen came home from her interview, we started working on the bed. It ended up taking a lot longer than I expected to screw in all those boards, but I am SO PLEASED with the bed. I really love it - it's so great to have an actual /bed/ again instead of a mattress on the floor. After doing all of that hard labor, we took showers and watched television to wait for house guests. Jen started to get tired and wanted to head for bed. Around 1am, we got a call from Scott saying that they were running a couple of hours late, so we went to bed. They arrived around 4:30am and we tried to get them settled in. And then we all passed out dead.

On Saturday morning, the cats made sure I couldn't sleep past 9am. I got up to feed the fuzzy monsters and saw that the kids were awake and watching television in the guest room. They said they were hungry so I got them some cereal, and then entertained them in the living room so Carina and Scott could sleep some more. Eventually we watched some of Shrek and waited for everyone else to wake up. During the day, the guests went to visit some of Carina's relatives, and Jen and I went to see a production of Moliere's "The Miser" at a reperatory company in Harvard Square. It really was quite good (I am a huge Moliere fan) and the costumer was really inventive - I was very impressed with the costumes and the actor playing the miser was also awesome. He had these great facial expressions so I'm glad I have good glasses. Unfortunately Jen and I were so tired that we were really droopy during the first half until Jen got us some caffiene. WHEE! We came home after the play and waited for the guests. When they arrived, we drove up to the hahbah to eat at a touristy place called The Barking Crab, but there was an hour+ wait so we walked up to another place to eat lawbstahs. We also had calamari, mussels, clams, and oysters on the half shell, which I'd never had. (YUM!) It was pretty late by the time we were done, so we picked up some ice cream to have dessert at home. Then everyone went to bed.

On Sunday, I got up to find that all of our houseguests were awake and watching their video of Kangaroo Jack for the kids. I wasn't terribly impressed with that movie, heh, though I /was/ impressed with Scott's inherent ability to guess the entire movie, and the kids' wonder at his psychic abilities. When that was done, I discovered that Back to the Future was on television, so the grownups got sucked into the nostalgia while trying to explain the movie to some 7-year-olds. Then I realized that the movie was set in 1985, and that was almost 20 years ago. *weep* Our guests had to get going (minimal drama from the kids, even) and we had to say our goodbyes. I walked them out to their car (on the street) in a tank top and boxers, so OF COURSE our landlord was outside. With two workpeople who were digging up the front lawn. /GREAT/. We stayed outside to chat with J for a while, which was nice. I [heart] him. For the rest of the afternoon, we basically lazed around and then went grocery shopping. [livejournal.com profile] folkyboy came over and stayed for a bit, and then we headed to Shakespeare on the Common's free performance of "Much Ado About Nothing." It was good, but got rainy. The plus side was that a lot of people in the front left (WIMPS!) so we had a better view for the second half. After the play, Jen and I promptly got into a stupid argument after I discovered that my closet shelving and clothes hanging rack had fallen down, so the great weekend plummeted into a fit of angst. Whee!

So it was a weekend full of built beds, bad closets, great guests, yummy foodles, and a lot of theatre. Yay!

i was talking to my friend Steve about Jen recently because i was so fascinated by her stage set building :) he found it very interesting too... the set for Shakespeare on the Common was really complex and cool! totally neato... i wonder how long Jen felt about the stage setup on that? care to elaborate Miss Jen?

I am not sure what youa re asking....how did I feel about the set? I liked it - I have always liked single set performances - I thought it was painted really well and I really like multi level sets that really have the actors move around...this is especially good for single set pieces...

In comparison - I didn't like the set for The Miser that much. The moving floor was neat but it moved around in the beginning and took away from the set....the palstic in the beginning also was kind of lame...but the plastic in the roof was pretty cool...I liked the chair on the wall that required climbing but it looked dumb...

Heh - enough of my opinion yet?:)

no i think it's interesting...

i HATED the plastic in The Miser. i thought that was supposed to be something that ended up being assy and had no relevance.

and i hated how they had them take it offstage and you could see them offstage with it... but i enjoyed the set for Much Ado...

it's always neat to hear an opinion from soneone who would have had to design something like that
