I think that a bunch of us should get together and buy a triple decker down here. We could all live in our respective units and pay the mortgage and have a big, happy home. And then in a couple of years, we could sell it at a big profit and then buy our own grown-up houses!

I've often thought of that as well. I doubt Wiley would go for it though =(

I think that could be so cool. But I'd be really worried that something bad would happen and the friendships could suffer. But it would definitely be something I would seriously consider - not sure if I could convince William.

I would so seriously love to. If it wasn't in Boston. And if I had money. And good credit...

I don't know if the friendships would suffer as long as there was some sort of balance mechanism in place. And as long as it was definitely separate units instead of the illusion of "one happy household."

Yeah, I know you hate Boston. Where would you like to do it? You tell me where and I will follow you. (Just not to NY. I'd never be able to afford anything.)

I could do something like that in the Portland area. Buying an apartment building was the vogue thing to do amongst my old office mates. I could almost be like them! With my credit, though, you'd wanna keep my name off the paper work. =P

Ha ha! Is your credit still that messed up? I know you've worked really hard to get on top of things. I'm really actually very proud of you and how you've been able to stick it out up there.

Portland is so snowy and chilly, though. Brrrrrrrr! (But yes, it's much cheaper up there in North Massachusetts.)

Portland weather is very mild. It never got as cold or as snowy as it did in Bangor. The magic of living on the bay! If it snowed a lot the snow was usually gone in a day or two. It's a very comfortable city to live in. Mild winters, mild summers, and tons of outdoorsy stuff to do for freaks like you. It was rated one of the top ten small cities in the country to live in! And trust me, it's not going to be any warmer or less snowy in Boston than in Portland. ;P

I brought up the subject with him over the weekend and he said he wasn't totally opposed to the idea... So maybe! We're currently hoping to try to buy something when we get back from Japan.

I hope it will at least be a LEEEEETTLE less cold and snowy in Boston, but you're right - they're both coastal and probably won't. Aah well. A girl can dream, right?

Do you think you'll really be moving back up this way any time in the near future? Because I miss you like mad and would like nothing more than to be able to hang out more!

I don't want to think about you going to Japan. Zip it!

I am putting serious consideration to it. It's easy to say 'the next time they offer a package I'm going to take it and move home', but it's another thing to actually do it. Although I'm really tired of everything being such a hassle, I really don't feel like I'm done with the city yet. I want to like living here again. I'm trying to save money to move in the spring (if not taking a package, that is) to someplace CHEAPER and MORE CONVENIENT TO MANHATTAN. Maybe if I don't feel like I'm constantly scrounging and scrapeing to live in a building and neighborhood that is quickly becoming unto a ghetto and a place that doesn't require a sherpa guide to get to and from I'd be happier here.

Also, if I DO take a package, leave the company, and move home, then what? What would I possibly do?

From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Well, that's a good question. What WOULD you possibly do? Is there a decent place for you to go to school out there? Because I'd imagine it would be easier for a student to get by in Portland than in the City. And of course you could cause lots of trouble with ME!

But I know what you mean about the City. I really hope you are able to move to a cheaper, more convenient place so you can suck more of the marrow out of the City. I'm sure there's so much more you can do and see - I'm so proud at how well you've hung on even though it's been so challenging.

You've definitely got what it takes to make it!
