Monique's wedding at the Biltmore
Aug. 29th, 2004 11:06 pmToday was an incredibly busy day. After a somewhat lazy early morning (I got up early for no reason), Jen and I took showers, ran to Lambert's for produce and deli stuff, ran home to iron clothes, and headed to Providence for Monique's wedding. Yay, open bar!
She looked stunning, by the way. Completely happy and positively radiant. I can't believe I've known her since I was four. Marybeth and Mark, too. Kindergarten represent! Natalie was there (friend since grade 1), and Casey (grade 3), and Mike (grade 4, and my enormous elementary school skaterboy crush). I think that covers elementary school. From junior high and high school, we had Jessica, John, Mandy, Brad, Jenn, Vanessa, and Sarah. Add in Monique's brothers and sisters, and it was like a mini reunion. Good times.
I got some good teasing in at Natalie's expense, mostly for being a Republican. I just adore her, though I abhor her politics. My favorite jab was when I was showing her some stored pictures from my camera, and got to a bunch of pictures from the March for Women's Lives, and was like, "DC, DC, oh Lincoln, DC, phallic building, oh nevermind this stuff, you're a Republican." Ha! I slay myself! (Actually, she's pro-choice and all of that, which is nice. She's just my token Reppie childhood friend.)
Apparently this guy John that I went to high school with is an aspiring actor in New York City. That just cracks me up to no end. I managed to get him to sing Nat King Cole & Natalie Cole's duet "Unforgettable" with me, lounge-singer style. We sang into a rose I plucked from the table arrangements. I am just too funny. The rose made its rounds later. I threw it on Monique when she was doing the "down, down" part of "Rock Lobster," she put it in her mouth, then gave it to someone, who gave it to someone, etc. Trend-setter, table for one.
So it was definitely a good time. And I like going to weddings with my Jennifer because it makes her so sappy. I love the sap. Who's going topay for plan our wedding?

Date: 2004-08-30 11:38 am (UTC)And yeah, it's kind of cool that I still get together with some people from elementary school (most of us went through elementary together and then went to the same junior high and high school, so we spent YEARS together), although I can't take all the credit. I'm not that great at keeping in touch with people, but the bride (my friend Monique) is - so SHE does all the work keeping in touch, and I see the people at the wedding. It works out great!
Out of that whole bunch, most of them I never keep in touch with. But it was nice to see them and catch up, anyway.

Date: 2004-09-02 06:55 pm (UTC)Anyway, thank you for letting me ask you questions! I'm curious about your past. How long were you married to your husband? Did your relationship end with him when you found Jen? How long have you been with Jen?

Date: 2004-09-04 01:30 pm (UTC)My husband and I were legally married for three years, but the third year we were broken up and just hadn't gotten divorced yet (so I usually say "two years"). We were together for almost six years - we started dating in college.
Funny thing about it all is that Aaron (my ex-husband) and I have known Jen for about the same amount of time. She and I met in college, and then Aaron and I got together and we would occasionally all hang out together. (Actually, we went on a double date once - me and Aaron, Jen and her gf, and Aaron was all into Jen's gf. HA!) Jen and I didn't get back in touch until after Aaron and I had broken up (though we were still technically married, I suppose), and we didn't get together until a bit after that.
My relationship with my husband ended independent of anything, really. Neither of us was seeing anyone else, neither had an affair or anything like that. We just shouldn't have been married, and we weren't in love, and we weren't committed to make a marriage work, so it was time to do the right thing. It was totally agreed upon with few hard feelings. And it had nothing to do with my dating girls or whatnot, since I had been dating girls before and after Aaron. :)
Jen and I have been together just shy of 3 years. We got back in touch with each other (we were close friends who lost touch) in October of 2001. My ex is a big fan of Jen, and we (when we all lived in Columbus) went out together occasionally with him and his girlfriend.
