Dear gods, but it is freaking COLD outside! I think it was in the teens all day. YIKES! Cold and snowy weather is a sure-fire way to make my job SUCKTACULAR! Brrrrr.

And I'd like nothing more than to crank the crap out of my heat right now. But we got our gas bill today and it was almost $90. $90! We keep the heat at 60 degrees at night while we're sleeping, and during the day while we're out. And it's set at 66 degrees in the morning before work, and 67 degrees in the evening. How the heck is it $90??!? And it's only December. Now I'm scared for January and February, since part of this month wasn't even that cold.

Brrrr. It is very chilly. I came home from work and put on pajamas. And then I remembered that I have to bring the garbage out tonight. DAMN YOU, GARBAGE COLLECTION!

My gas bill last year was over $250.

But, then again, I was heating a house.

my gasbill last month was $90 too, and I do't have a roommate/partner/whatever to split it with (and the rats are so cheap about kicking in). I'm glad I left ifonly for that! And you know me, I was sitting bundled in sweaters and blankets as much as possible.

It was in the teens all day yesterday and I had to move the last of my stuff. ick.

OMG, brrrr. It must totally suck to move in this weather. I am so sorry for you!

We are a bunch of cheap asses with cheap-ass pets who won't pitch in on the bills. WTF is up with that?

I bet your place was pretty drafty, too. Ours has high ceilings and I think all the heat is hiding up there.

I feel your pain, we do similar and our bill goes up to 200 in the winter.

I too, get in my pajamas and remember that I have trash to take out. And I usually say to that, screw it.

Also, you're at the top of the house, you should be collecting all of the heat from the apartments below you!

Well, I /would/ say 'screw it' but I don't want the bag of gargabe sitting here on the third floor in my kitchen for another week, especially with holiday garbage coming up.

I am such a slave to being clean. I should change my name to FlyLady.

I think all the heat hides in the vaulted ceilings and skips out the skylights.

It's too bad you can reach them to plastic wrap them or something.

Did you know that my Grandfather saved $30 on his heating bill be draping his windows with so many layers of plastic wrap used for mattresses that you couldn't see out of the windows?

I wonder how much he spent on the wrap....

Boy I hate this medication. I think and feel I am typing one word and a totally different one comes out.

I passed out the first time I got my $260 bill.

When I was reviving, I thought, "And that's for freezing our asses off trying to save money by keeping it at 60! Think of the people who are all warm and toasty. What do they pay? Thousands of dollars?"

my my... what a delightfully spiteful entry!

don't worry - i feel the same way when i pay my phonebill every month. but good news is - you still have heat! the radiator in my room is dead - and it was a COLD night in MA last night.

Yeah, I wonder those things, too. And then I wonder if the toasty-warm people get heating assistance, or if their heat is included in their rent. And then I get pessimistic and think, "Wait, why are we freezing if we're gonna pay that much anyway? CRANK IT UP!!"

I need to plastic our front window, but I keep forgetting to go somewhere and get the plastic. I think our regular plastic wrap has pores (microwave-safe) so that wouldn't work.

Yeah, we would need a full-sized ladder to reach up and plastic the skylights up there. And who wants to bring a ladder up to our apartment? (No one.)

I think I will make it next week project to make sure we get some plastic so we can cover the windows we can reach.

Oh, I am full of the spite, and it is delicious. :) I have serious spite for anything related to cold weather. I HATE COLD WEATHER! (In case that wasn't abundantly clear, right?)

Thankfully the phone bill is totally reasonable (we only use cell phones - go free long distance! - and don't get a lot of minutes because we're never on the phone). But we make up for it with gas (heat, hot water, stove, dryer) and electricity!

Hi may I make a suggestion? There is a kit you can buy,it comes with plastic and tape. You can do several windows with it. Put the tape on the window first (double sided) then the plastic. After that you BLOW DRY the plastic. It gets really tight and you can see out of it. It almost looks as if you do not have plastic on your windows. It's great stuff. I got mine at home depot last year. Just make sure the to follow instructions and clean the window frames where the tape is to stick really well. Hope this might help !
