You'll all be so proud - I made and attended a doctor appointment this morning for my throat.

Of course, I could only get in with the nurse practitioner, and I was only in there for five minutes, long enough for her to say, "Wow, that's really swollen," and "Keep taking those antibiotics so you don't get resistant bacteria," and "Wow, I didn't know about that contraindication with ibuprofen - thanks for letting me know!" She also told me to call my nurse tomorrow to get me a referral to an ENT. And that she hoped I got better and not worse for Christmas.

Well, that was a big fat waste of a $20 co-pay! But at least I can say that I was sick, and I admitted I was sick, /and/ I cancelled three of my appointments today (one for the doctor appointment, one because I didn't know how long the appointment would take, and one because it was an evening appointment and I wasn't up for it). Productivity be damned! But I /did/ deliver all of the gifts to families that I needed to deliver today, /and/ made a side trip to another family to deliver gifts and a crib I managed to finagle, and attended the office holiday food party and led my Taboo team to a victory!

THERE IS NO STOPPING ME.

(I am just really REALLY hoping my throat does not get any worse. It is pretty bad right now. It tends to get worse overnight. Please send good thoughts!)

Also, I am in BIG LOVE with Carina for sending my Jennifer and I such thoughtful presents! AND my grandparents sent a card to both Jennifer and me! WHOO!

Just a note about mucous membranes...

As a sinus person (... Does that make me sinusoidal?) I can relate. I wish the best in health for your mucus membranes and all the soft tissue in your body. Yes, Vive la Rhinostoplasm! Up wih clear nasal slime jelly.

Has anyone told you about gargling with listerine?

I have a tonsil (left) that swells to the size of a golf ball whenever it damn well feels like it. Antibiotics don't usually work. Vicodin works for the pain, but then again, Vicodin works for anything.

I have found relief with the orange citrus flavored listerine, diluted a bit with warm water. It cleans the throat and tonsil quite well. Austrailian chewing sticks in Tea Tree flavor also provide an uber minty saliva that numbs the tonsil.

And once when I was still a smoker, I had a RN suggest off the record that I switch to Menthol cigarettes for a bit; they worked like a charm. The smoke dried the area, and methol numbed it, and it was back to normal in three days.

Sorry you have the tonsil-from-hell.

Yes, I do gargle with Listerine regularly (though I prefer the blue kind, personally). At my doctor appointment yesterday, the nurse practitioner I saw also suggested this stuff called Peroxyl (made by Colgate I think, it containes hydrogen peroxide). That worked well too, without being as abrasive. But peroxide always makes me drool like an idiot.

The plus is that these incredibly strong antibiotics dropped my tonsil back to near-normal in record time. The minus is that I seem to either have another illness on top of this, or am running a fever from some unknown reason.

Weird.

p.s. Thank you so much for your really sweet card. I was so touched!
