Metformin (http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/DVH/Uses/0,3915,426%7CMetformin,00.html) is a drug that was created for Type II Diabetes but has recently begun being prescribed for people with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, as PCOS has been linked to a number of endocrinologic problems such as insulin resistance, high cholesterol, etc. So while I don't have any cysts in my ovaries (at last check), my doctor thinks I likely have some form of PCOS because I had a high level of insulin in my blood although my blood sugar was in the normal/low normal range.
So I've been taking Metformin since mid-February to try to level all of my hormones out and become a fertile earth goddess or something. ;) (Apparently it's working, at least a little. I got my first period in three years last week.)
And yes, I got the book and have been reading some every night before bed. Thank you so much! I'll be done in no time!
