After almost a year of procrastinating, I've finally hooked myself up with a dentist appointment AND an eye doctor appointment. I feel so... appointed. Or accomplished. Or something.

I kind of like eye appointments, I'm a nerd like that and a sucker for the goofy machines. But the dentist, not so much. I haven't gone since 2000.

I need to get an eye exam. But...no insurance. The whole state of Michigan is on a medical insurance freeze for government funded assistance.

I called today and tried to get set up with therapy again, and when I told them I had no insurance, they told me I had to pay 115.00 up front for one session. Yeah, right.

I know a lot of people fear the dentist, but I actually liked going...mainly because I only went maybe 10 times in my entire life.

I made a lot of calls today, too. We rock for getting stuff done.

to make you feel better. . .

After not having seen a dentist in 3 years I have 2 sessions of root planing and scaling and ten cavities. 6-10 appointments. Not that you should worry, I'm sure your teeth are perfectly healthy. . .

Ohhh! I LOVE your icon! I'm a huge Lynda Barry fan. Where did you get it, if I may ask?

Ugh, that sucks. Just hearing that news is enough to make you need more therapy, right?

Yuck. I'm sorry. :(

Well, when I went to the dentist in 1999, it was the first time in like 6-7 years. I had 7 cavities, none of them needed root canals. I didn't have root planing, but I did have some sort of special scaling or something. I don't remember.

I'm hoping it goes as well as last time. I plan to tell the dentist that I am a total wimp. It's not entirely true, but I'd like him to believe that and be a little nicer.

Okay, dentist. First let me tell you about John. Perfect teeth. Bright white. Straight. Shiny. Brushes every day. Finally got him to the dentist and he had one itty-bitty cavity but they couldn't numb him up enough to get him through the filling without him swearing every few minutes. They measured his 'gum pockets' where 1 is good and 4 and 5s are bad. Five millimeter pockets mean gum disease will make you lose teeth. All those pretty teeth!

Me. Bad brusher. Hate toothpaste. 25 cavities in 12 teeth. Been going to the dentist every other month for about three years. Finally have all cavities taken care of... next is gum reduction surgeries to get enough tooth to attach three crowns. AUGH.

We now have reward charts for ourselves and our kids... you brush every morning and every night for a week and you get a reward (DVD, bowling, toy from store, new book) and John has a chart for flossing every night for a reward. This is working for half of us (Johnny and John haven't missed a day in three weeks!)

A few tricks: This might sound gross, but brush every time you take a shower. While you wait for the water to get up to temp, load your brush and take it in with you. Make it the first thing you clean.

Get these nifty things called 'Wild Flossers' (Wal-Mart carries them) and keep the pack in your car. Floss on your way to work in the morning.

Run your tongue over your teeth after you get them cleaned; remember that feeling. Fuzzy teeth suck.

Okay, I'm done now. Good luck!

Oooh, sounds nice.

I like my current glasses very much, but I want to make sure the prescription is still good. Also, I want to get some contacts for the first time ever. I'm so tired of my toddlers pulling my glasses off!!

Oh, but I brush my teeth at least twice a day and floss every day (most of the time, sometimes it's every other day). I don't have a problem remembering to brush/floss. I just get skeeved about the dentist. And it's not even because I'm afraid of pain or drills or whatever - I'm afraid of big, expensive bills!

i used to have contacts too, but offices with airconditioning made it hard to wear them. they were constantly drying out.
i always had to use artificial tears and visine to keep them wet.

Huh huh, you said "wet."

Good for you

Lately, I've turned into a complete dental hygeiene Nazi. Always hollering at them to brush their teeth. I think it's because no one did this to me as a kid. I remember my grandmother having me brush my teeth... and then finish my orange juice.

I was scarred for life.

Well, I already have the appointment. Hopefully it will go better than I'm expecting. I'm just totally paranoid of finding out I have 87432179871 cavities and need $789437985479827875875085209 worth of work.
