A sign of things to come

My [livejournal.com profile] smurfbrother has been going through my dad's office looking for important things and getting rid of unimportant things. (With my dad, many MANY of the things he kept were largely unimportant, since he was pretty afraid to throw anything out.) He has been really good about bringing over things that might have sentimental value to me, things like my elementary school photos and report cards and all of that.

Apparently, my father also had the penchant for collecting things that came out on the months my brother and I were born. Things like, oh, Playboy magazines. You know, the important stuff.

Did you know that the cover art and issue theme of the October 1975 Playboy is Sappho: Stunning Portraits of Women in Love?

Destiny.

Fabulous.

Both that your dad kept a commemorative Playboy, and your birth-cover. Love it.

I'll have to open it up sometime. You know, for the articles.

Isn't that funny? I couldn't believe it.

I'm getting flashbacks to January 1999...

My dad saved my umbilical cord. *CRINGE*

YIKES!!!

Hrm. Maybe I should make my mom start cleaning out her house NOW. I am starting to be afraid of what she might be keeping around - especially now with her big basement!

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2005-07-03 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's a VERY scary thought. Although your Mom has done a couple of major moves so some of the stuff might have already been purged. My dad lived and died in the house he grew up in, so there was LOTS of time to accumulate.

Stuff

[identity profile] lorac.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
That's very true. She has been forced to purge many times with all the moving. There's a little hope!

When I visit my Grandma she keeps trying to get me to take everything in her house home with me. If William and I ever buy a house I won't have a good excuse for not taking stuff anymore!

My grandmother started giving a lot of her stuff away a couple of years ago. Guess who she gave it to? MY FATHER.

Ugh!
