March of the Penguins

folkyboyTim and I saw March of the Penguins this afternoon, and it was amazing. I had no idea that the life of a penguin was so complex! I mean, sure, I knew it was cold and frozen and all of that, but I have to say the whole experience was really inspiring.

I couldn't help but think about our lives as people in the 21st century, how cluttered it is with machines and gadgets and gizmos and schedules and all of those other things that "savage" beasts don't add into their already chaotic lives. It's funny how all of these things purport to simplify our existence and yet more complexities are added to us. Not to mention how our choices have affected our planet.

The whole experience was simply breathtaking and it just reaffirmed my desire to get into my own space so I can simplify my life and my family's life. I want to clear my space, clean my air, grow some food, give back to the earth... tread more lightly. I don't feel like that is terribly possible here, not right now anyway, so I'm anxious to get to that next step. Perhaps I should watch more nature films.

In other news, going out in the heat (to the movies and then Tim and I walked up Newbury street and hit some used record stores) really wore me out. I was seriously dragging my butt up the stairs. Yar, I'm old. But we got to stop at the Pru and have lunch with my smoochie (Qdoba, mmm), so that was a huge plus!

In other OTHER news, the employee at the Body Shop was totally flirting with me when I was buying shower gel. And I'm starting to get eyed by boys in public. Enter Bizarro World, Population: Me.

W and I wanted to go see that - but here all the commentary is in Japanese. Is it worth seeing just for the visuals? Or should we wait for the DVD?

PS. Sorry I missed your call!

I think it's probably best to wait for the English commentary on DVD. Not only would it make a /lot/ more sense with the words, Morgan Freeman narrates and I find his voice so comforting and relaxing. There was a LOT of commentary. I thought it would be a few words and a lot of penguins, but there was a definite story to it.

So yeah, wait. Unless you can find a Morgan Freeman version somewhere.

Definitely wait... because it was really helpful to know how the penguins can identify mom/dad/baby and also, you won't be able to understand when mom or dad are the ones taking their long trek to the breeding grounds/ocean.

Very important to know which parent is doing what.
