I guess today was Unofficial See RENT Day, because my f-list is full of people's reviews. Jen and I partook in the day along with Jeff and Melis, fresh in from Vermont and trying to steal our kitten.

I don't have many opinions on the movie. I tried to really expect nothing because, let's face it, Chris Columbus is far from my favorite filmmaker. But I will say this: Angel was just the most adorable little thing I have ever seen. *dies*

Also, I ate popcorn for dinner. It's been quite a long time since I've had Movie Food for dinner. Oh, [livejournal.com profile] kungfoogirl, are you jealous?

p.s. Taye Diggs is still TEH HOTTNESS.

I heart Taye

This is actually the first Rent review I've seen.

PS - What was with Jesse's Gregory Hines impression?

Wholehearted agreement on both Taye Diggs and Chris Columbus!

Well, sorry to disappoint, since it wasn't much of a review. :)

I thought Jesse was pretty adorable throughout, though he definitely had some Gregory Hines thing going on. But at first I just couldn't get the image of him in Law and Order out of my head (doesn't he even usually wear the same hat??!?)... then once I settled into the fact that he wasn't out busting bad guys I was all set and could appreciate his eager overacting. :)

I'm not much of a crier-at-movies. Especially since the dude next to me had smuggled in a REALLY oniony burrito. YUCK!! THAT'S enough to make me cry anyday!

I know you have a lot of personal connection to the musical, and that's cool. A lot of people do, but I don't. I mean, I saw it when I was in college and I really liked it a lot... but I can't say I'd thought a lot about it since. Still, it was nice to get back into it and see some delicious eye candy!

when I was interning, I said at a meeting, 'Taye Diggs is the most gorgeous man on the planet.' in the context of sitting about 3 feet away from him at the world premiere showing of Drum at the Toronto Film Festival 6 months earlier. The editor just sort of nodded, more interested in the fact I go to world premiere movies, and the publisher looked thoughtful for a second, then said, "You know, I'm a straight man, and I think I'd have to agree with you."

Not a week later he had to loan me a digital camera for a man on the street article, and when he came to the place I was contracted to, they were...ta daa! Shooting Kevin Drum across the street from the office I was at. I had been taking 'Taye Diggs' breaks every hour or so that day.

It's such a shame Kevin Hill was cancelled (not that I really noticed the show, much), but it's entire version of Boston was within 10 minutes of my apartment, and I saw him a fair bit, actually.

I have no idea why I messed up the first ref. to Kevin Hill there.

Well, that would be a delicious way to spend work breaks! There is just something about him. Yum.

It's a conspiracy!

So tell me, why did you bawl? What parts make you bawl? Inquiring minds want to know!

I just wanted to say thanks to you and Jen. We had a blast...must not go so long between hanging out-ness! (No "you blew us off" comments are necessary.)

I'm still torn about whether or not I want to see it. It really was ruined for me by that annoying housemate I had that summer who shoved it down my throat for three months. And because that Measure a Year song gets stuck in my head until I'm ready to climb a clock tower. I really liked the Other Larson Musical, though, and I wish that one would get some attention. I mean, how many autobiographical musicals are there? Good ones, even? Ahh well.

You're welcome - we always have a great time with you guys!

p.s. We need an evening of board game playing in the nearish future.

Me too. Allyson and I both had tears running down our faces. I loved it... which isn't even a strong enough way to describe how I feel about it. Just wow.

I started going into the ugly cry several different times... at the funeral, of course, but also earlier when they were at the Life meeting standing in the circle singing, but I can't remember the words to the song right now that got to me.

When the people were disappearing in the Life Meeting, or when they were singing about dignity or whatever? Yeah, those were moving times.

It's amazing how AIDS was such a focus of /everything/ when I was younger and it seems like we never hear about it anymore. Weird.

Dammit, now you've got that song in MY head! *beats you up*

What is the "other Larson musical"? (I'm not that hip to the musicals.)

The Other Larson Musical is called Tick... Tick... Boom! It's a story about himself turning 30. His best friend is trying to convince him to finally give up theater and get a job as a business man. His girlfriend is trying to convince him to move to the suburbs to get married and have babies, but he wants to stay in NYC and work on his plays, since one of them (Rent) was starting to get some interest. It's quite a good show.
