My milkshake brings all the cats to the bathroom

Jen fell on the ice several weeks ago and hurt her wrist. When it didn't feel better after a couple of days, she went to get it x-rayed by some quack who wrapped it very poorly with an ACE bandage and told her to go home. She switched to a store-bought wrist brace because everyone knows that ACE bandages don't do much, really. After a couple of weeks of this, I made her call her doctor, who referred her to a orthopedist. He took more x-rays and told her that he didn't find anything, but it could be a fracture of a bone in your thumb that only shows up on a bone scan. So now she has to go for a bone scan next week.

The reason this is all so important is that we're having this major snowstorm and I have to do all of the shoveling by myself. By 11:30am or so the snow had tapered off a little and I went to tackle Round One, which was about a foot of snow. It was about 20" or so around the car (thank you, snow plows) and even though it is that "light, powdery stuff," it was still quite a workout. I am NOT looking forward to doing it all again around 8 tonight when it actually stops snowing.

I had to shovel my way out of the house and down to the sidewalk (I'm sure that pleased the landlords) and by the time I'd finished the car, there was already at least 2" on the walk. So I did it again. We're having intermittent spells of white-out conditions and then calmer stuff. I'm trying to decide if I want to make Round Two the last round, or if I want to take another stab at it later in the afternoon. I suppose we'll see how bad it is.

I know it's not Jen's fault that she's injured, but it really sucks being the only snow-shoveler. Usually when it snows overnight on a work night I have to do it all myself because she doesn't use the car, but on a weekend and during a major (15-20 inches expected) storm? Suck. Maybe all of this exertion will blow all of the gunk from my lungs/sinuses. That would be awesome.

p.s. There is apparently a family of squirrels that have made it into the roof of our building. They seem to be using the walls around our bathtub as their snow shelter. Good times for cats!

I know how you feel. Although there are five other units here in our condo building, all of the other residents are lazy asses and wouldn't think of picking up a shovel to do the walks/steps/sidewalks.

I'm thinking, based on the most recent forecasts, that I'll head back out between 6PM and 8PM to finish it off for the night. As long as it stays cold, the snow will remain light/powdery and it should be manageable.

Have you thought about putting down some salt on the sidewalk right after you've shoveled it? I never thought about it until co-chair started doing it and it's AMAZING.

Although, we haven't had a blizzard here. Harumph.

squirrels live in my roof as well. they were scratching really bad last nite and after figuring out that it was squirrels i felt really bad for yelling at my cats! they have just been staring at the ceiling in confusion.

The landlords put salt on the stairs/walkway whenever we have a slippery storm, which is nice. And if there was an inch or two of snow left, yeah, that would probably take care of it.

I think it's snowed at least 6" since I was last outside. Yuck!

There are 6 people who live in this building, but really the only people I've ever seen shovel the walk are Landlord K and me. Jen has come out to help shovel the car out on the street at times, but certainly can't do it now.

I've offered to help Landlord K with his driveway but he always refuses. He is thankful when I do the walk or the sidewalk, though.

The Movie Thief shovels out his own car (in his own driveway)... but I haven't seen his roommate, E, do anything.

Still, it's a pipe dream that one of them will see me out there hacking away and offer to help with my car. ;)

Gosh, every time I miss snow, I forget about that part. And being stuffy on top of it? Ick. Sorry, Jude.

Also, one of our cats ALWAYS follows us into the bathroom. Enthusiastically, too, with this little jump and run. It's as if it's her last time. Heh.
