judecorp: (goodbye for now)

Just sitting here with some cats. We went down to RI today and visited with the grandparents and ended up dropping my [livejournal.com profile] smurfbrother off at the airport so he could head back to Missouri. Grandma & Grandpa insisted on making us wait to go to a late lunch with them so by the time we went I was ready to eat my own hat. I held off, though, and ordered a fairly healthy meal - grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and salad. I tell you, this "eat healthy" thing is going to kill me... at least at first.

What's going to be the hardest is cutting down the sugar. Since I won't be taking Metformin after a postive pregnancy test, I need to be a heck of a lot better with the carbs/sugar to keep my insulin in check a bit. And I /love/ me some sugar. Gah.

Also trying to stop having: tuna fish, caffiene, aspartame. The last one is going to kill me. There's very little I like more than artificial sweeteners. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] keelamonster, what's the word on artificial sweeteners?

We booked our airport shuttle to/from the NOLA airport. Good times. We tried looking up what's open and what's closed, but I think we'll just wander around for a couple of days and do whatever comes up. I don't have the energy for a well-planned trip. Maybe I'll have Jen pick up a touristy book or something and then we can be REALLY lame. If it's anything like our other vacations, it will rain a lot and we will watch a lot of television. :)

Tonight I take my first Clomid. Please oh please do not let me turn into a crazy hormonal nightmare. Thank you.

I think I read that 1-2 servings a week are okay, but I will probably try not to eat it at all when I am pregnant too.

Depending on what you read, some places say that canned "light" tuna is better than "albacore" or "white" tuna (has less mercury)... most of the consensus is that you can have 1-2 servings/week of the safer fish. I'd rather not risk it with the canned tuna, and instead have salmon or trout or something that is low on the food chain and better for you. :)

But yeah, I might sneak a little tuna in there from time to time.

How about Splenda?

I thought you were waiting to take the clomid until after your trip? Let me know how it goes!

splenda's pretty good, though the verdict is still out on sucralose in general as far as safety goes, i think. you could also try Stevia, which is a no cal natural sweetener, i think you can get it at wild-oats-ish places.

All the info I got said Splenda was fine, but watch out for aspartame. As long as you don't over do it, you should be fine.

When we went to a meet-n-greet at our potential pediatrician's office last week, somebody asked about mercury in the immunizations. The doc said that there was more mercury in one can of tuna than in all of the immunizations a kid will get in their life combined (both tiny amounts, but I still found this interesting).

Good luck with the clomid. It might make you crazy, but then, it also might be just the little magical thing you need. FX for you.

So, I spoke to Cindy about it, and we would like to meet up with you guys on sunday, April 2. We can meet you guys at your hotel, or anywhere you want. I will be bringing my camera, and Cindy of course. Send me a email with your specifics, and we can discuss the details.

Inconclusive. Some websites say that Splenda is okay because it's not metabolized, but other sites aren't sure. I'd really rather avoid risking things that haven't really been tested, you know?

When I talked to the nurse, she asked if I wanted to wait a month (for a new cycle) and of course I said no, I would chance it. Since last cycle I ovulated on CD21, the nurse thinks I have a good chance of not missing it!

I'm not sure of all of the details, but Stevia has been banned by the FDA for use as a sweetener, I think because its safety hasn't been tested, so I sure don't want to risk it.

As for Splenda, current sources say it's fine for pregnancy but it's so new that there's really no way to know for sure. I kind of want to be as natural as possible. Heck it would probably be good to me to ditch this stuff, anyway. :)

Yeah, I think I'll talk to my doctor/nurse just because I'm a neurotic mess. I know that current sources say that some Splenda is okay (some even say that some aspartame is okay) but I really want to be careful about that stuff. So I'm sure I'll end up with some delicious splenda at some point, but it's probably better for me in the long run if I end up with healthier eating habits. :)

Immunizations make me kind of nervous, but that's interesting that there's more mercury in tuna. You just don't inject tuna into your blood stream, you know?

So far so good with the Clomid. It's only been one day, but I haven't had any side effects yet. Thanks for the FX!

Sounds good to me! I will e-mail you with all the details and we can come up with a plan of action. How's that?

Yay!
