Finished the frickin' scarf!

I just finished knitting my first scarf!

This would not be a monumentous occasion except that I started knitting this thing, no joke, in March of 2005 when I was visiting [livejournal.com profile] rizzo41 in New York and she taught me how to knit. She gave me a couple of needles and cast on some blue yarn and taught me how to knit and purl. Later, she gave me some old yarn of hers and two needles and told me to have at it for the bus ride home. And I did - I got into it and knitted throughout the bus ride, and then for a night or two after.

And then, like most other crafty things I have ever started in my life, I put it down and never picked it up again. Now and again I would do a couple of rows and then life would get in the way or I would forget about it again.

When Lara was visiting, she had about a hundred little knitting projects and then we took a side trip to Circles because she wanted some yarn, and I swore that I would finish that frickin' scarf that I was originally going to give to my grandmother for, don't laugh, Easter of 2005. Whoops.

I had to teach myself to cast off via teh internets, but I did, and it's finished, and I can give it to Grandma for Christmas or something. It is easily the ugliest thing I have ever seen... well, no, but the ugliest thing I have ever made with my own two hands.

What's up, Little Bo Peep? Don't you know sheep-herding is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad for you...?

Oh dear, that's just AWFUL.

(But you're cute!)

All kidding aside, that is nice, and I'm impressed.

Thanks. You're the cutest.

Yay, scarf!

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe now I'll spend two years making another!

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, hats look tricky!

[identity profile] mightywombat.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
They're really not, I don't think. Socks and gloves are tricky. Hats are really pretty easy.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-10-12 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Let's make a hat together!

[identity profile] mightywombat.livejournal.com 2006-10-12 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
I have only ever knit a square about four inches to a side, so it's sfe to say that I don't knit.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Me either! Let's do it!

[identity profile] mightywombat.livejournal.com 2006-10-14 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm sure the GF would love to teach me how to knit.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
So get on it!

[identity profile] thespian.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's ugly; is it possible that length of time makes it uglier in your eyes because it's just been sittig there, TAUNTING you? ;-)

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a definite possibility. But the colors don't really do it for me. It's the only yarn I have!

[identity profile] cappucinogrrl.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
That's not ugly, bubbelah!

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You and your Yiddish!

(But thanks!)

[identity profile] wendywoowho.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's BEAUTIFUL! What yarn did you use?

You're a KNITTER! Dude. That's so cool!

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The yarn I used is 2.5 skeins of yarn that my friend [livejournal.com profile] rizzo41 had lying around her house that she wasn't going to use. Seriously, that's all I know. Heh, I'm not very helpful. ;)

Maybe I should spend the next 2 years making something else!

[identity profile] wendywoowho.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Me, I'm hoping you spend the next 18 or so, but the great thing is, that kind of project sets off all sorts of knitting projects, too.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-10-12 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
We'll see what happens. :)

[identity profile] rizzo41.livejournal.com 2006-10-14 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
If memory serves the yarn was Lion Brand Jiffy in "Denver". Or maybe "Amsterdam" Something like that.

Yay Jude!

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-10-12 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. :)

It's awesome! I still have my first one, and someone even asked me last year "Is that homemade?"

I said "Yeah, does it look like it?" and she replied "Uh, I was making one too...."

I say keep it. It's your first one.

[identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com 2006-10-12 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Awwwh, I'm not much of a keeper. I'm much more of a giver-awayer.

Maybe I'll make something for me someday. I have several scarves that were made for me. Maybe I'll make a fun hat or something.
